Six Shots, Six Minutes | The Unanswered Death of Christian Griggs (Part 1)

Crime Weekly

On the morning of October 12, 2013, 23-year-old Army veteran Christian Griggs went to his in-laws’ property in Angier, North Carolina to pick up his young daughter, Jaden. At 10:54 a.m., he called his father Tony to say that his father-in-law, Reverend Pat Chisenhall, was yelling at him while his estranged wife Katie hid inside the house. Six minutes later, at 11:00 a.m., Tony arrived at the Chisenhall home to find his son lying face-down, bleeding and unresponsive. Pat had shot him six times with a .22 rifle. Once in the abdomen, once on the top of his left shoulder, and four times in the back.

Christian was rushed to the hospital, where he was soon pronounced dead. As his family struggled to process the sudden loss, detectives began piecing together what had happened that fateful morning. What they uncovered were conflicting accounts, multiple 911 calls, and questions that would haunt the case for years to come.

I wish people loved their children more than they despise their ex. People need to stop using children as pawns, they're people!!! They deserve to know both sides of their family.

It wasn't until near the end when Stephanie said, "Im just so glad Jayden wasn't home," that I was 100% convinced that they pre-meditated and orchestrated this entire freaking thing down to making sure the baby wasn't there. they knew he was coming, for the baby, intentionally made sure the baby wasn't there, instead of just giving him his dang gon baby so he could go on his way peacefully.

Am I the only one who loves the intensity of a new crime weekly case starting? Just the anticipation of knowing we're about to dive deep in to a new case.

How sad for his family and his daughter. And she will most likely grow up with more influence in the direction that doesn't paint her father in the best light, which is heartbreaking.

I’ve never NEEDED a Crime Weekly episode so badly to distract from life. Thank you, Stephanie & Derrick.

Something seems fishy to me. If Christian was going to hurt anyone why would he have called his dad?

If this guy was there to see his daughter for the visit, whats his motive for suddenly deciding to break into the house? They clearly wanted him to just walk away from the custody so that they could move on. They didn't count on him being so determined and i truly believe this was a set up, which is why the grandmother took the child out of the house.

REQUEST: April Marie Tinsley disappeared in Fort Wayne, In, on April 1, 1988. In May of that year I gave birth to my daughter, who grew up seeing billboards with a photo of April, begging for any information.
Her killer was found in 2018. My daughter called me in tears, and that's when I realized the effect that seeing those billboards had on her entire life.
He was convicted and recently died.
There is so much that we don't know about April and the monster who killed her.
My daughter and I would love for you to cover this case. I feel like you will honor and respect April and show her family the compassion they deserve.
Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication. I've learned SO much from you guys!

I’m an Army Veteran & I’m telling you that the Army doesn’t care about your mental health, they care about if you can still carry a weapon & go to war. The Army discourages going to mental health & saying you have PTSD because that means you may not be able to deploy again. There is a reason he was self medicating

X-ray technologist and former educator here. A 2 year degree is actually a misnomer. There's a year of pre-reqs and 2 years of program. There are certificate programs but you have to have at least an associates degree in something as well as the pre-reqs because you can't take the certification exam with having a degree. We are actually called technologists rather than technicians. Technicians work on equipment, technologists work on people.

Mom here, my daughter, who is now 25, was 18, enrolled in university, had her life plan, was focused and determined, and then the summer between high school and university she met a boy. Everything she had planned evaporated. Watching her give up all her dreams for this boy was heart breaking. Fast forward to now, she finally left that relationship after 6 years of abuse and is getting her life on track. I wouldn't have sent her to boarding school. She needed to live and learn on her own, even though it was painful to watch.

I'm an Army vet, 3 tours to Iraq and Afghanistan...I have some stories like that...They teach us to go to war but they CAN'T teach us how to get the war out of our head. The people we were with are closer than family to us and they will be until the end of time ❤

Very intriguing case, trying to wrap my head around the idea that no one is in prison for killing this father. 4 shots in the back!!
Thank you for covering this case

As a parent it’s important to not make anything forbidden fruit. That can be a tough thing to do. Takes a lot of wisdom , prayer and intuition

These Stand your ground laws need to be changed. It shouldn't be ok to unalive anyone without going back inside your house and contacting law enforcement and giving them time to arrive. Especially if the other person doesn't have a weapon. Now let's talk about the 6 shots, especially in the back, make me feel so angry! That father in law who is a so-called pastor 😒 PLEASE! What terrible people. I'll bet Pat tampered with that window to make it appear like Christian was trying to get in. JMO

@kristycov5203 1 year ago (edited)

“I shot Christian through the window as he was trying to get inside.”, BUT he was shot in the back 4 times? Was he “coming through the window” backwards???
