I test rode a Honda XL750 Transalp last May. Within 1 mile I was sold. I went straight back to the dealer and bought it on the spot. Absolutely cracking machine.

Happy Australian 2023 Transalp owner here, 38,000 kms in, and it's still growing on me. As in, I like it more than I expected to, in the subtler ways that take a few years (and thousands of miles) to fully appreciate. This bike is easy to own, cheap on fuel, stable and predictable handling, not too heavy, smooth - in short, nothing to whinge about, after 2 1/2 years. Mine does a lot of dirt road miles, has done many gravel tracks, and highway miles, and is really surprisingly good at everything. I have an uber-light Ducati sports bike, so the Honda doesn't have to cover that usage, but the Honda is an ideal everyday bike, which I literally ride almost every day, now I'm retired.
It strikes me that going from the Cross-Tourer to the Transalp you will enjoy the simplicity of owning and riding the Transalp. Not complicated, not too heavy - you don't really have to plan where you park it - gets 400 kms (250 miles) to a full (to the brim) tank, and isn't embarrassed riding with faster road bikes. But it won't get 400 kms to the tank doing that, and the brakes start to smell a bit hot! But it handles surprisingly well, and has done nothing wrong in my time with it. I just leave it set on USER, with max power, min engine brake, and have to switch the traction control off when I am doing the dirt roads, which is most times I ride it. But it only takes moments once you are used to it, with it left in USER, and can be done 'on the fly'. The brakes remain in off-road without reverting at switch off, but there is a more off-road setting beyond that on my model, but I never worry about that. So I am only fiddling with the Traction, whilst moving, nothing else.
But once you're across that nonsense (the reality is the bike is at its best with everything switched off...) it is a very forgiving bike to ride, and own. A sublime clutch take up (never stalled mine once in that distance) and it even sounds nice enough on the overrun. Not like the Termignonis, but more appropriate in this quiet village, and the nature I ride through a lot. Plus I am older now... I am still surprised how much I enjoy the Transalp, even though my sports bike is a very special thing around Phillip Island (and on the road) but it is too easy to speed on, whereas the Transalp is happy at any speed. It doesn't really encourage you to speed like the red beastie does, and is a more relaxing ride for it. The two provide a good balance.
I wouldn't be going for the E-clutch, personally, as it looks a bit complicated and vulnerable where it sits (I worked as a bike mechanic for many years) plus I like all my bikes to work the same! In that regard, the 'upside down' blinker and horn buttons were annoying initially on the Honda, but now I have to adapt when I ride the other bikes, as I keep on riding the Transalp, all the time! I hope you enjoy yours as much. You might get a decent price on a superceded 2025 model without the E-clutch - that's what I'd be doing. Lighter, simpler, and the same as most bikes, if you ride others, like most of us do now, in these dying embers of capitalism...

Imagine if it had tubeless tyres and cruise, how many more would have been sold!.  We’ve had cruise on cars for 30 years - don’t understand the hesitancy in the motorcycle Industry.

I was in exactly the same position with regards to selling my DCT Crosstourer, absolutely loved it, the only bike that I’ve ever HAD to sell and not wanted to sell. Sold it simply owing as you to its weight. In my opinion it’s armed with one of the best engines to ever grace a Honda, syrupy smooth, supremely comfortable and must be honest quite economical for a V4.
I replaced it with a DCT Africa Twin but now find myself in a similar position and am seriously looking at the new E-clutch Transalp so your real world ride proved really useful, thanks for that. 👍

Cracking bikes. I brought one new in 2023. Loved it but decided I fancied a change last year and spent nearly £20k on a 1300 GS. I regretted trading in the Transalp so much that within 4 months I'd brought another and the GS was sold last month because I just prefer the Transalp despite all the refinements and electronics on the GS! Added Veridian Cruise and now looking to drop an uprated rear shock in it, and it'll be all I ever need (tubeless would be nice though). So much easier to manage than the bigger bikes and for a parallel twin it's got lovely useable power for the road and a fantastic induction sound. Not interested in the auto boxes but I think the e-clutch might just be the sweet spot. Clutch when you really want it but with the option to go lazy on those rides where you're several hours in and just want the bike to take the strain. 👍

Some of my bikes I’ve had up to eight years and I never washed them. I’ll rinse the wheels, but I never put water on the bike. I detail everything by hand pressure washer gets into so many places and causes so much corrosion and electrical issues. But it doesn’t rain in California, but a couple of days a yearso I never have to ride in the rain either.

Mate I was the first to test it via my mate Mikey Doble who is a great fella. I've ordered the Transalp get it in July. Very excited.

An ECU flash really opens up the low and midrange power and fixes all the emissions restrictions in the fueling, wakes it up a good bit.  BT Moto is one example.  In the U.S. weirdly they are power restricted for some reason but the tune brings them to 90HP at the wheel, quite a jump on our model. The only "miss" I can find, and it's an odd one given the purpose of this bike, they don't have tubeless tires.  Even my Ibex 450 has tubeless wheels.

The e-clutch makes a lot of sense, less complexity and less weight and component costs too vs the DCT.

Both bikes would be sweet.

I loved the look of my 2020 Africa Twin Adventure Sport DCT ES. Thereafter it disappointed over the 2014 GSA it replaced. I’m back to a GS (1250 bumblebee) after a KTM 890, Husky 701 and Forza 750. Time to look again at Honda which I love for quality and service (also Doble’s who are excellent). Like you, the weight is pretty unwieldy in town (from Crystal Palace) so a ton of dire roads and traffic. The e-clutch would be a bonus.

Traded my ‘18GSA in on a ‘25 Transalp. Love the Honda, loved the BMW except for the weight and the looking possibilities of major repairs (ABS pump intermittently on the Fritz& shocks acting odd @ times). Really enjoying the lightness of the Honda.

Good to know that the '26 bike is finally arriving in the UK.  I ordered mine back in March to replace my '23 Transalp. As for the tubeless debate, it can be a worry about getting a puncture but I had two punctures on my previous bikes with tubeless and neither could be fixed at the roadside. So I carry a can of tyreweld just like I did back in the dark ages (70's,  80's) .

He he i put those 41 miles on it and like you did not want to return it because it's a great bike.

I have 2023 Transalp and happy with it,  but if you like doing your own basic service's just make sure the newer models that you can reset the service light that comes up on dash with my 2023 Transalp I can in settings.  You might be one who gets ever thing done at dealers any way then its no drama.
