Amazing seeing a hawk used for pushing back, a truly enlightened keeper and a thoroughly efficient practice!

What a true country gent David Whitby is. Such a great example of what to do.

Great to see a hawk working the boundaries , always wondered if this was possible coming from a falconer background and now moving into shooting due to lack of ground available to fly birds of prey. Its a really good way to combine the two and an interesting article. Just wonder if it will ever "take off".

The reason the government didn’t consult BASC or the countryside alliance but instead they listened to Chris Peckham. Was because they don’t have to. Why? It’s because we don’t speak as one voice in the uk. All the association’s BASC, Country side Alliance, Game keeper’s association, national rifle association uk. To name but a few, Are looking out for their own members (fully understandable) but the not the sport as whole. Imagine if had a national council that represented all the field sports/ country pursuits, so we did speak with one voice then the government might take some notice. But as it is we stand somewhat divided. (I am happy to be corrected if I have it wrong, as this is just my perception of our sport in 2020)

John Hilliard has hit the nail on the head, it is a similar problem with all sports with multiple governing bodies or associations. But it cannot be beyond the whit of the interested parties to come together under one umbrella organisation for the good of all countryside pursuits. If nothing else having one contact or figure head makes it easier and simpler for the powers that be to communicate with the fieldsports and countryside community. I am not niave enough to believe that the turkeys (not meant as a derogatory comment on the various bodies) would vote for Christmas, but having a more formal cross party forum or at least having more regular meetings/contact must be viewed as a positive for all, hopefully this would gain more purchase in the Westminster bubble and wider msn outlets.
The umbrella organisation would need a national name, ideally with royal patronage or charitable status, Royal Society for Countryside Pursuits, National Conservation League.
No something more inspiring, positive and uplifting is required, like a Chuchill speech, Elgar’s land of hope and glory or W.H. Audin’s night mail. OK I will take off my rose tinted spectacles and stop dreaming......
