This is one of the most beautiful sermons I've ever heard, and I love the way Pastor John emphasizes the pursuit of finding your pleasures in life in Yahweh! This is a point that we Christians cannot bear to hear enough and I think in this age of quick study and on-demand listening, his dedication to this pursuit in his ministry is a testament to nothing other than the absolutely perfect beauty of the holy Word of God , and His unsearchable lovingkindness, grace and mercy! The love of God is a topic we would do well to emphasize ourselves as individuals in our own daily and momentary pursuits and in the pulpits of our own churches!
One of the joys of self-realization, that comes from reading the Word of God is that there are feeling intellectuals who are not afraid to open their minds to what it means to treasure God. And in so doing lance what appears to be a paradox, and how he explains the sorrow of contrition. All the superficial resistance to "feelings" that were such a bore in the churches which I have attended over the last 40 years, is done away with. Astonishing revelational exegesis, from the mind and heart of John Piper. A passion for Joy. Courageous exegesis from the modern pulpit. Thanks!
The same way Jonathan Edwards has shaped you, you also have shaped my understanding of the Bible. May God Continue to preserve you that you may finish your race.
Hedonism is a word that John Piper has redeemed to better explain the joy and hope that we should strive in GOD...very good presentation. John Piper is never afraid to dive into the river streams of HOLY scriptures to dig for its beautiful treasures ...as usual thank you brother for your work in GOD for HIS people...the gospel and salvation are grand and should be more and more grand in the heart of HIS children...
Maximise desire for the things of the world during the week ,Monday to Saturday and Minimize our desire for God to Sunday for one to two hours and rush back to the world to enjoy ourselves .
It was placed in my heart today, to listen to, Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God. After which was compelled by the Holy Spirit, to recommit to the cause of Christ and rededicate what is left of this life on Earth, to service of Him, who alone has truly loved me since my creation.
The title doesn't sound right; didn't listened to the entire sermon, and truly don't believe I need to, I have in the past seen how some of these word usages are perhaps well meant, but only serve to tickle people's ears and send the message that it is okay to stretch the meaning of some words, the result in some cases is that people end up calling evil good, and if the pastor does it, why can't I with other words, becomes the mentality. Dangerous ground, in my opinion, I do like and respect John Piper, but don't agree with everything he says, come to think, we're not to agree with people, we are to agree with the Truth, the Lord Jesus!
ROM 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.Hedonist? Are you happy in Christ? I pray you are.
Johnathan Edwards owned six slaves including Venus, Titus, Leah, Rose, Joseph and Sue. John Wesley was a keen abolitionist, speaking out and writing against the slave trade. Wesley denounced slavery as "the sum of all villainies" and detailed its abuses.
It’s impossible for an unregenerate man to repent, only a man with the Spirit of God can truly repent. It is for the unregenerate to simply believe and accept what Christ did for him in order to receive the Holy Spirit. Then starts the life of repentance and resting in Christ moment by moment

n. DAMNATION OF INFANTS. One of these two things are certainly true, and self-evidently so: either that it is most just, exceeding just, THAT GOD SHOULD TAKE THE SOUL OF A NEW-BORN INFANT AND CAST IT INTO ETERNAL TORMENTS, or else that those infants that are saved are not saved by the death of Christ. For none are saved by the death of Christ from damnation that have not deserved damnation. Wherefore, if it be very just, it is but a foolish piece of nonsense, to cry out of it as blasphemous to suppose that it ever is [just], because (they say) it is contrary to his mercy. Now such I ask, whether it is contrary to his mercy to inflict punishment upon any according to their deserts, and whether it was contrary to God's mercy to damn the fallen angels. There was no mercy showed to them at all. And why is it blasphemous to suppose that God should inflict upon infants so much as they have deserved, without mercy, as well as [upon] them?MS: "as they"; the reference is to the fallen angels, whereas the preceding "they" refers to infants. If you say, they have not deserved it so much, I answer: they certainly have deserved what they have deserved, as much as the fallen angels; because their sin is not accompanied with such aggravating circumstances, so neither shall their punishment be so aggravated. So that the punishment of one is every whit as contrary

to God's mercy as [that of] the other. WHO SHALL DETERMINE JUST HOW MUCH SIN IS SUFFICIENT TO MAKE DAMNATION AGREEABLE TO THE DIVINE PERFECTIONS? AND HOW CAN THEY DETERMINE THAT INFANTS HAVE NOT SO MUCH SIN? FOR WE KNOW THEY HAVE ENOUGH TO MAKE THEIR DAMNATION VERY JUST.
