Steeeve Wasn’t Ready for These Questions 😂 | Hangar Flying Episode 7

Captain Steeeve

In this episode of Hangar Flying, Gary flips the script and surprises Captain Steeeve with a round of unexpected questions about his flying career. From the most heart-pounding moments in the cockpit to the funniest passenger stories—nothing’s off limits this time.

Steeeve didn’t have any time to prepare, so what you see is raw, real, and completely unscripted. It’s a side of him we rarely get to see… and Gary isn’t letting him off easy.

Grab a cup of coffee and settle in for some hangar-talk between two veteran pilots—full of laughter, honesty, and a few stories that probably weren’t meant for the internet.

✈️ Watch the full episode and join the conversation in the comments—what question should Gary ask next time?

15:52 "In there's a bad actor in the air, then we'll talk about it. I'll find the worst place to drop that person off and we'll let them figure out how they're going to get to their destination." 🤣🤣🤣

I am a retired truck driver and within the past couple of years the biggest tech push currently is AI operated tractor trailers potentially with no driver in the tractors. In addition to that idea begin terrifying by nature, with a wife, son and daughter-in-law, as well as 5 grandchildren (the oldest 2 are driving right now) who either are driving or soon will be, the thought of them driving with fully autonomous 80,000 pound trucks on the road with them ABSOFREAKINLUTELY terrifies the liver out of me!!! I certainly do hope and pray that these "killer robots" with no warm body on board to jump in and take charge of the issues when something goes wrong never see the light of day!!!

Captain Steeeve was spot on with the braking action nil. Many winters ago in the Northwest was a airport next to a river and even if the airport authority worked valiantly in winter to keep the airport surfaces usable, sometimes mother nature won the day. We were told that the braking action report was poor to fair, which was within our Ops guidelines. What they forgot to mention was the service truck has broken down and taxiways were untreated. Landing such was not an issue for our large turboprop. However, leaving the runway, things changed drastically. The taxiway, now a sheet of ice, went up hill to the station ramp, then crested down towards the car park on the other side of the airport fence. The station agent was with his wands directing us in as we left the taxiway, but we weren't going towards him, we started to slide sideways and then to the left past the terminal to the car park. The wands started waving frantically, as we found that nose wheel steering and brakes were useless. The only thing that worked was robustly jamming the engines into reverse or low idle to attempt to stop the slide. We stopped, thank heaven, and held position. When the agent attempted to chock the nose gear he slipped and broke his arm. After hand sanding the area the airport police and fire department helped our passengers walk across the ramp to the terminal. We spent the night til they could treat the taxiways.

Sane decisions are always more defensible than "hope for the best."

One pilot? Four eyes, four ears, two brains, and if one gets ill, then there is a spare. Stick with two.

This is great stuff, would love to see more of these kinds of surprising questions, but I think it'd be great to find a mix of passengers with no flight experience, student pilots with low hours, or perhaps some CFIs looking to move to the airlines, to ask some of the questions they've had in the back of their minds, we could see some amazing questions from those folks!

Wow. It sounds as if things have improved professionally since you first started. As a woman who experienced tremendous prejudice while majoring in Chemistry long before it was accepted, I sincerely appreciate your honesty. You present everything so sincerely and meaningfully! I could only hope that all pilots were thus so.
