16 years later France still lost on penalty in the world cup final.

still blows me away how Thierry, Zidane, Thurman, Ribery, Pirlo, Cannavaro, Del Piero, Gigi, Totti, all played this match. straight class.

France didn't win, but Zidane sure made HEADlines

Pirlo's every freekick or corner goes to his teammate's head.

here in 2026, this is italy’s last knockout match to date

On 2021, Frank Ribery and Gianluigi Buffon still playing regularly...

Somehow Italy didn't concede a single goal from open play that entire World Cup. Their defense was absolutely remarkable.

When the coach told Zidane to use his head, I don’t think he meant it literally.

1:12 dives, gets a penalty
4:46 ironically thats the more legit foul, but no penalty

1990: German won in Italy
2006: Italy won in germany

Those penalties were probably the best ones I ever seen. The power and accuracy is top class.

that was back when italy actually played in the world cup feels like a long time now

Zidane's penalty goal was a masterpiece. He should have remained calm when he argued with Materazzi.

i was 9 years old and was watching this match alone....and it was in the midnight back when we used to sleep by 10 pm... I literally slept by the 1st half and woke up when the chaos of zidane headbutting mertarazzi was going on...... This was the first time I saw a wc final perhaps the best since 2006

I still remember when Italy won the world cup. My oldest daughter was just born and we sat and watched the entire game together. Was one of the greatest days of my lifetime.

This WC was the last Cup with all stars involved. One of the best Cup we had.

After seeing Italy knocked out of 2022 against North Macedonia. It is crazy to sit and reflect about this being the most recent game they have played in the World Cup Knockout rounds
