Fun that they'd make an album basically completely focused on polymeter ideas and call it.... Discipline

I attended Fripp’s Guitar Craft at Claymont Court in the mid-80s, early on in the program.  Of the many many musical trajectory changing things that I remember from it, I remember Fripp getting up in front of the class (of 26 people IIRC) and explaining polyrhythms.  The details escape me, but it was something like this: he started tapping his right hand against his leg, counting out a 7 rhythm.  Then in his left hand he started tapping out a 5 rhythm.  Then he put his weight on one foot and started tapping out a 4 rhythm against that with his other foot.  All the while, he’s talking to us as natural as can be.

I also remember a bunch of us standing outside his room listening behind a closed door to a metronome clicking at breakneck speed and him practicing a picking pattern.  It might have been this one, but it’s been too long to remember.  He’d go for a minute or so and then stop and curse and start again.  Of course we couldn’t hear any mistake but he clearly did.

Adrian Belew is totally underrated.

Its so beautiful when the twin guitars start in unison and then go out of phase, and then back into unison.

Robert fripp is such a genius

These guys invented math rock. Not in its current form, but they got the ball rolling.

Both my hands cramped up just watching that.

Love how most polyrhythms just sound like exercises, but when King Crimson does it, it sounds deliberate and musical

Man you nailed that Fripp intro part 🤯 that sh*t is nearly impossible. Huge props and amazing video brother

It's no wonder Danny Carey, Steve Vai and Adrian Belew are touring covering King Crimspn songs.

An absolute masterpiece. Over 40 years old and still sounds like something from the future.

Hell yea! As soon as I saw the title, I knew it would be Frame by Frame. Such an amazing song, and so fun to play! Great work as always!

Fripp was way ahead of its time. I was listening to to these guys in the 80s and Fripps music sound fresh even to day.

Frame by Frame is such a cool sounding song.

Great breakdown and guitar tone, as always! Discipline rules

King Crimson is easily the best band of all time, in my opinion

Fractured is even more insane

I love the Belew era albums…his quirky, more accessible sensibilities meant I could play KC to friends who wouldn’t otherwise have listened
And watching Belew sing over the weirder time signatures is almost as beguiling as watching Fripp drill his parts

Nicely done.  As a young musician/teen in the 80's, my  head exploded when I first heard this on vinyl.  It still does.  And I feel so lucky to have seen them live in the 80's.  I mean... what planet did they come from?  There will never be another.

“Frame by Frame” was the first song KC played in their soundcheck before an Oct 1981 concert at Carnegie Mellon University where I was a 19-year-old student working stage security. As a college DJ, I had already listened many times to “Discipline,” loving it thoroughly. So I had an idea what the band was going to sound like — and indeed was eagerly excited in anticipation — but after many minutes of soundcheck noodling and individual instrument checks, when they unleashed  “Frame by Frame” in full forceful volume, my breath was literally taken away, with goosebumps! Simply awesome in its full meaning. Yes, memorable after 45 years!
