Your local fish store isn't lying to you, but the system it operates inside can still produce bad advice. This video breaks down why retail incentives, uneven expertise, and a beginner's desire for a quick fix combine to produce bad recommendations, even when nobody behind the counter means harm.

We look at what the American Pet Products Association's own data says about how much hobbyists rely on fish stores for information, why "follow the money" isn't as simple as it sounds, why new tank syndrome makes patience the hardest thing a store can sell you, and why "can I put a Mandarin in my tank" was never a yes-or-no question.

You'll leave with six red flags to watch for at the counter, six green flags that mark a store worth trusting, and three questions to ask before you buy or dose anything.
