Wonderful list! I must confess, I haven't seen Come Back Little Sheba but I plan to remedy that in the future!

These are some of my guilty pleasure Oscar victories:

Laura Dern - Marriage Story.  I know many don't like this win but I enjoyed Dern playing a tough-as-nails divorce attorney.

Allison Janney - I, Tonya.  What an abusive and domineering mother. Why do I like it so much? 🤭

Marisa Tomei - My Cousin Vinny.  Who could reject a woman with so much knowledge on automobiles?

Ruth Gordan - Rosemary's Baby. She's colorful but dangerous. Though you know she's a servant of the devil you love her every appearance.

Gale Sondergaard - Anthony Adverse
She's a conniving housekeeper who marries a wealthy man  to advance her own devious plans. Yup, guilty!

Maggie Smith stole every scene in California Suite.  She is such a talented screen thief here.  I'm surprised there is a stitch of furniture left in that hotel room.  RIP, Dame Maggie.   What other actor/actress in human history impressed both US and UK audiences at such a diverse, purely entertaining level?   I smile every time I see her up there.  And she will always be up there.

I agree. I can't see anyone else in Come Back Little Sheba. Mildred Pierce is a guilty pleasure, but what's even a bigger guilty pleasure? Carol Burnett in Mildred Fierce. Joan wrote Carol a letter saying how much she enjoyed it.

This is a very clever, pinpointed way of looking at the Oscars.  Keep up the fine work, oscarman42.

Typing this through my tears because you showed "Lola's" remembrance of seeing the dead little Sheba: I pick Anne Baxter as "Sophie" in 1946 "The Razor's Edge." My favorite scene takes place in the guilty-pleasure dive where she whispers something dirty into the offending ear of "Isabel." (Gene Tierney)  What did she say about her brute boyfriend?!

My favorite guilty pleasure is also one of my favorite performances ever. Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny! Anytime I’m down or depressed I watch this performance and it makes me forget everything that I was sad about.

You are right about come back little sheeba... the Booth performance was so extraordinary and powerful I have never forgotten it.
.

The book Sophie‘s Choice by Author William Styron was released in January 1979. I received the book as a gift later that year. A beautifully written book, I could not put it down and of course became captivated by the character Sophie. In 1982 the film was released starring Meryl Streep as my beloved Sophie. I had strong emotional feelings for the character Sophie and Streep fulfilled every one of those emotional feelings and surpassed them with her stunning and hypnotizing performance. Streep channeled the character Sophie from the pages of the book and transformed her to the screen. It is not an easy film to watch but in my humble opinion no finer role has ever been played. Meryl Streep was magnificent as Sophie.

Judi Dench in Shakespeare in Love, Dianne Wiest in Bullets over Broadway, Mira Sorvino in Mighty Aphrodite, Alan Arkin in Little Miss Sunshine, Cuba Gooding Jr. in Jerry Maguire, Cher in Moonstruck, Roberto Benigni in Life is Beautiful (I know,  I know, go ahead and hate me, see if I care) and Anjelica Huston in Prizzi's Honor. They're all great, and you can almost see them feasting on the roles, as if they're enjoying every moment.

3 of my favorite guilty pleasure performances were all in 1 movie. The only problem for this post is only 1 performance was nominated & it didn't win. I'm talking about the 3 headed monster from Dr. Strangelove Peter Sellers, George C.Scott and Sterling Hayden. In a perfect world(Academy)they all would've won.

My favorite guilty pleasure Oscar winner has to be Denzel Washington's Alonzo in Training Day.  I love his charismatic, evil performance.  I will watch this movie anytime I see it on or stumble across it whether its just starting, in the middle or at the end. Some people say it was a makeup Oscar win but it's my favorite Denzel performance. I root for him to get the money to the Russians so he doesn't get whacked. Another Best Actor winner that gets put down a lot but I absolutely love it is Humphrey Bogart as Charlie Allnut in The African Queen. Most people hate this win because it kept Brando from winning & a sweep of the acting Oscars. To those people I say Bogart should've already won 3 Best Actor Oscars(Casablanca, The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre &  In A Lonely Place)by this time so be mad the Academy &  not Bogey & this great film!

This might be a tough one.  I understand the concept of "Guilty Pleasure," but I have never felt "guilty" during or after a "pleasure!" 😀

So I'll just go with my favorite Oscars for Best Actress and Best Actor, all of which were my choices for the best of the year in chronological order:

Bette Davis - Dangerous

Ed Begley - Sweet Bird of Youth
Melvyn Douglas - Hud
Gig Young - They Shoot Horses, Don't They?
Sam Rockwell - Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

One of my guilty pleasures is Patricia Neal in "Hud." She's tremendously underrated. Her sexual tension / chemistry with Paul Newman is electric.

Maggie Smith and Michael Caine in California Suite. Every minute of their scenes is a joy!

I really enjoy your videos. I am a total oscar geek! Your list is near perfect. I'm glad you gave Dorothy Malone some love.
I have read some of the comments and see that two of my guilty pleasures are getting the love they deserve. Hilary Swank in Boys Dont Cry and Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny.
However the one performance that I think gets overlooked and panned for winning is Jean Dujardin in The Artist. Without dialogue he takes you on an emotional journey. His performance is grand without being over the top. Another is Louis Fletcher in One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest. Like Hopkins she may not have a lot of screen time but she haunts the entire film. A tour de force.
In the should have won catagory is Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain. To this day I still don't understand how he lost. Phillip Seymour Hoffmans performance of Capote was cartoonish. I think Hoffman was a great actor but this wasn't even close to his best. Also, from the same film but in supporting actor, how did George Clooney beat Jake Gyllenhaal?

Anyway, Thank you for some of the most thought provoking Oscar videos out there.

Bette Davi was splendid in in All About Eve, The Letter, Baby Jane, and so many more - the list is endless!

I like a lot of your picks thanks for sharing. My guilty pleasures would be Cher in Moonstruck and Bette Davis in Jezebel.

What a fun video - You spotlighted the Oscar wins which were heavy on the guilt and super heavy on the pleasure.

First off, I’m extremely glad this video from today included something about the late great Maggie Smith. She was definitely well-loved by the Oscars. Her performance in California Suite was absolutely divine - So divine she managed to get singled out in a pretty large all-star cast. What I remember most about it is she won an Oscar for playing somebody who loses an Oscar - Such a clever turn of events!

Here are several of my favorite Oscar-winning guilty pleasures - I’m actually proud to like some of them (well, maybe just a few of them).
Cuba Gooding Jr. in Jerry Maguire (who can resist the very-silly-but-ultimately-iconic Show-Me-The-Money scene)
Ariana DeBose in West Side Story (no match for Rita Moreno’s Anita although I must admit also enjoying her Anita)
John Gielgud in Arthur
Don Ameche in Cocoon
Jack Palance in City Slickers
Whoopi Goldberg in Ghost
(I wish I could’ve included Melissa McCarthy in Bridesmaids on that list, but only Oscar winners are being discussed and she unfortunately lost, darn it)

I clearly need to see Come Back, Little Sheba ASAP.

Thank you for including one of my comments in the Appreciation section of your video - What an honor!

Last but not least, I love Wheat Thins too!

So I have two but one of them is a nomination not a win. The first is Helen Hayes in Airport, those movies especially airport 75 are so campy to me and quite a guilty pleasure indeed. My guilty pleasure nomination is Hermione Baddeley in Room At The Top, an Oscar Nomination for 2 minutes of screen time is iconic and I've seen her part in that movie so many times that I've memorized all her lines

BTW- I saw "California Suite" as a reward for a good 5th grade report card! And my mom actually took me to see it! 😂
