According to some Black Hair YouTubers I’ve watched, Mielle’s founder has allegedly been degrading Black influencers for a very long time so I’m sure they’re happy to break free from our demographic. A lot of Black cosmetic founders won’t say it out loud but from watching the industry long enough, I’ve seen that many of them just want to build their company on Black support and sell it to the highest white or Asian bidder. Growing a non-black customer fanbase will do wonders for them. I say let them have it and we put our money towards Black owned brands that actually respect us and care to stay Black owned.

It's 2023 people. Buy the rosemary leaves  and make your own oil. This back & forth will never stop. They need us to make money. Empower yourself.

Fortunately my Target wasn’t out of Mielle Organics oil and I brought two last weekend but I understand why a lot of black women are frustrated with white women buying Mielle Organics oil. This has happened before with Shea Moisture and they changed the formula to appeal to their white customers. I feel like many black women including myself fear that Mielle Organics will change their formula as well. For me, Mielle Organics is the only products that work for my low porosity type 4 hair.

This is what is happening to black hair products. A lot of them change the formula to appeal to other customers damaging black hair. Most now are white, Asian owned etc.

Itd be so nice to just be a black woman without politics being tied to everything. AND THE WILD PART of it all is what we want doesn't matter lol. As a black woman you cant divorce your personhood from politics. For others it can be just hair but for us it never has been. Thank you for this video.

Ladies, my mother told me as a young lady, "NEVER LET A MAN TELL YOU MORE THAN ONCE THAT HE DOESN'T WANT OR NEED YOU."  I have applied that statement with everything & ever person in my life. It has never lead me wrongly.  It definitely applies to this situation as well. I will continue to make my own products & I will never sellout to wyt-e.

Just be patient, ww will get tired of it soon. My mother said they did the same thing in the late 80's with cocoa butter. They'll get tired of the acne and breakouts from all those oils just like in the past.

I wonder if MIELLE started courting white women because a lot of black women cancelled MIELLE due to an issue that arose between MIELLE and a black female content creator. The content creator reviewed some MIELLE product and didn’t get a favorable result. The owner of MIELLE and her husband came for the content creator hard and there were some pretty ugly exchanges that became known by the wider black audiences. This move towards a white market just doesn’t seem coincidental to me.

Back in my college days (I’m 31) I had a white roommate who would cringe at the thought of her black roommates not washing our hair every 2-3 days, or that my roommate had a wig sewed onto her head (not gonna lie that one was new for me, while we all had bundles in 2012 sis was living in the 2022), or taking out our braids together as a community. So it’s kind of infuriating when they do something we’ve been doing for centuries and presenting it like a new concept like y’all didn’t just call me dirty meanwhile they use hair washing and showering synonymously

1. The Crown Act pisses me off, The disrespect!
2. Don't get mad...just collectively stop supporting that brand
3. thank you for making this video

I wanna see a Kardashian peddle some Blue Magic lol

We as a community need to stop giving people easy access to our community. As a race we are constantly seeking approval from others, opening up the doors and letting them all in. It needs to stop

If Mielle was asking white creators to promote their products and say that "they're for everybody" honestly that wouldn't surprise me. Especially considering how their owner got into it with other Black natural hair content creators. It hurts because I can imagine they would be treating non-Black content creators with the utmost respect and it's like, why couldn't you act that way towards the Black hair influencers? By the time I went natural, Shea Moisture was pretty much already gentrified so I don't know too much about them, but if Mielle wants to transition away from a Black audience, I say good riddance tbh.

As someone who doesn't have 4C(or even type 3 or 4) hair, this confuses me. I HATE the way pure oil feels in my hair, and mind you my hair takes days to get oily. Idk how they don't have the greasiest hair ever, white women need to stay in our(not a woman, but I'm a femme) lane. We have many products that actually work for our hair, while black women don't, so we need to stick with what works for us instead of changing things never meant for us.

I'm going to be very honest I figured it would get co-opted after I saw it happen with the wig tutorials. Wigs weren't popular until they got gentrified for the public.

The issue isn’t even about white women using black hair products because that shows me that a black woman is going to have possibly get her billion dollar bag and profits. The issue for me is when they change the ingredients to cater to hair textures that were meant for black peoples hair specifically 4C such as myself. That’s what shea moisture did and that’s why they lost their base because they changed i  was not able able to their products. And since when did white women need to-add oil to their scalp, their hair is naturally oily make it make sense that’s what’s annoying as a black woman.

This reminds me of when they didn't have clean drinking water in Hawaii and IG influencers were posting their. Vacation photos. They were literally getting mad at ppl in the comments for explaining what was going on and telling folks not to come.

They can't afford Argan oil anymore so they have resorted to using this. It's funny to me because as a kid in the 80's we were teased for putting "grease" in our hair.

The owner of Mielle organics made a post about how her products were efficient at growing black hair. I made the comment that girls with her texture of hair almost never have problems growing it long, as she looks about as black as your average Puerto Rican. I commented “show me someone with typical black textured hair growing long from your products and Ill believe it.”She blocked me🤷🏽‍♀️🤣

Why are we buying any particular brand anyway? You want to use rosemary oil, you can get Rosemary Essential Oil and can mix with with jojoba oil or a castor oil. Rosemary is a traditionally used herb in the West for hair care. But there's another thing you haven't considered. YouTube influencers are approached by companies to promote their products. And under capitalism, the one way for an entrepreneur to grow their business is to market it, and getting influencers to do that is one way to increase sales. And any publicity could be good publicity. Moreover, for an entrepreneur to hit the jackpot is to get another firm to buy out the business they started. None of these realities won't make you better, and even Corporate Social Responsibility is considered only a priority when not to consider it damages sales. So when it's a black entrepreneur doing this, we may be disappointed, but shouldn't be surprised. There is no black capitalism just for black people, as everybody is chasing the same dollar which is green. Hegemony has no respect for anything but itself and capitalism is hegemonic. Yes, it's all to do with our beliefs about living under capitalism, which destroys to create, because its easier and cheaper to do that. There's no easy answer to this issue. You can be sure that Mielle's marketing team did this. What can we do? Find another product, or start making your own hair treatments. Scaling it up to a business means you gotta make profit. If you do it as local co-ops, club together, and learn together how to make basic, natural products together that are safe and effective, and share the end products. Don't sell them. Keep it small, communal, and to your members and share them. But don't make it a business, because the rules of capitalism give you no way out once you do that. You will have to play by the Masters rules. Just saying. And as for Mielle, you have a choice. You could try to persuade or evade. You can try and engage with the owners by complaining, or trying to get them to respond to their black customers, but keep your expectations low. Or, you could move on to finding another solution to your hair care.
