Wireless Remote Throttle and Gearbox Steering for Trolling Motor - Part 1

In this video, I illustrate the methods used to wire 2 Hobbywing 880 ESCs to control the throttle and gearbox steering of a trolling motor. Each motor is controlled by a separate ESC and operated from a single wireless HOTRC DS-600 remote. The Hobbywing ESC no longer includes a fan. I ordered fans but did not receive them at the time of this video. I have included any related videos and parts in the narrative section.
Parts:
Minn Kota 12V 45lb Thrust C2 Endura Trolling Motor.
Newport Vessels NK 180 Mounting Bracket.
Hobbywing Quicrun 880 ESC (2).
HOTRC DS-600 Wireless Remote Controller and Receiver.
Project Box.

Sure appreciate your clean, concise electrical connections. I've learned a lot from you. I especially enjoyed the "shameless plug" comment. It had me laughing. Thank you.

NICE! You gotterdun! I’m still working on mine and I think I’ll have to upgrade the second ESC (only goes in one direction). I was really hoping you’d figured out a way to use one ESC. But two will do!
I don’t know if you already know it but you can reduce the turn speed by programming the gearbox ESC. (Changing programming items 5 and 6 to option 1 reduces the power output to 25% and drops the speed proportionally.)
As usual, great vid and thanks for the motivation!!

awesome work man! can we see a water test?

Great video again good sir! This is exactly what I'm putting together myself, just haven't put together yet. Except,
I 'm trying to use a very small PWM (Voltage regulator) smaller than the one you used in your last video with the gear box.
I plan to install in between the ESC and battery wires. Much like what LainegEj did for his gearbox steering project.
You will definitely have less torque on the steering and you probably wouldn't even need those "L" brackets on the newport vessels mount. I also plan to use jumper wires for the channels, so that I don't have to use the joystick every time.

Your videos are unmatched in terms of clarity and detail. Thank you for doing such a great job. I have a question, I saw you did a similar build using a servo. After having both , which of these two would you recommend? Also, have you tried mounting this setup to a standard trolling motor mount?

How did you plug the esc's into the reciever? Motor port 1, gearbox port 2? And then you ran the transmitter in mixed mode?

Great video as always! I always appreciate you doing these things for new ideas. I have one question. I noticed when you turn the motor, that turning unit has a lot of extra movement. Is there maybe a way to make that more solid and maybe decrease the shaking and extra movement, or does the entire unit have to be free? Again, thank ou for another great video!

Does anyone know if these products are still available? I’m struggling to find them.

I saw someone else made this but stepped down the voltage to the motor to turn the trolling motor. Maybe 3 volts vs 12. Allowed the motor to turn smoothly.

Does this work on traditional trolling motors with the handle on top ?

Is this a complete no go for salt water use?
Would you recommend the other type of steering you used in other videos due to salt water use? Thanks for the videos man you’re knowledge and abilities are amazing!

I really enjoy your videos and appreciate your knowledge and sharing! Thank you.
Could you please advise on a replacement/alternative for HOBBYWING QUICRUN 880 ESC, as it seems I am unable to find it at the moment? Also, is this a 6V unit or 12V? Thank you!

I really want to do this! Thanks for the content. This may be a dumb question but I’m hung up on how to go from the ESC wires to my trolling motor which has 8 AWG wire. Any advice? (My motor pulls 52 amps at full speed)
