Long comment but this is for anyone considering getting one. Ive had one of these for 2½ years, a quattro 55 from 70.000km to 100.000km. I had the galaxy blue same as in the video, and people stare at it all the time. It has a lot of presence on the road and I think it just looks stunning. This thing is an absolute tank, a total isolation chamber. At almost 3 tons it feels like you’re flattening the asphalt as you go over it. If you get the double glazed windows you literally don't even hear emergency sirens before you see them with your eyes. They all came standard with the same airride from the Q7, Cayenne and Urus, so your senses are removed from the road by multitudes of layers. You can go into a corner with 100kph and barely notice how fast you're going until the tires squeal. The active ride is incredible and in the sporty setting you barely get any body roll. In comfort mode it's like gliding across the road. The interior is fantastic, because it was developed just before all the insane cost cutting ruined every model that came after it. Just the right amount of screens and physical controls. You want to make sure its very well optioned because these cars could get embarrassingly barebones until they put more stuff in packages on the 23' facelift. The premium contour seats with massaging and cooling are absolutely worth getting, to me I think only the S-class seats were more comfortable than this. Everybody loves getting into it. I had the standard audio which was very good but not amazing, problem being that only the B&O can adjust Subwoofer levels, whereas standard just gets treble and bass EQ. Full ACC pack and 360 camera are a must, it has big blind spots. You also want Matrix LED, but they're all shipped with it so it can also be unlocked by VAG specialists. Back seats are spacious but the trunk is not huge compared to the external size of the car, simply because it's so "fat" and also because of the batteries. There's like 200kg of sound deadening in this thing. Yes the range is not great, but charging was great (30m) at the time because the curve is almost flat, and at motorway speeds (110-130ish) you'll get roughly 3:30 hours of driving before you'll have to stop, which I personally do anyway. In my opinion if you're getting into one of these now, you can't complain about the range, because that is the entire reason why they're so affordable now since everyone thinks they need way more range than they actually do. I was literally cross shopping this with a used Model 3. If you get the facelift Q8 e-tron it has comparable range to competitors. The 19" rim designs are disgusting, so get the 20's, not the 21's although they look amazing. The 20's barely affect range because the width is the same as the 19's, whereas the 21s are much wider and drop the range by like 10%. Make sure to get some sort of extended warranty because of the motor coolant leak issue, which I never had but is quite common. If you understand exactly what you're getting into this car will not disappoint. Ironically it’s a great city car despite its size because it just absorbs all the noise, huge curbs and rough asphalt in cities. It FEELS luxurious. I’d wager if you come from anything lesser than an A8/Q7, it will impress you. This is champagne motoring for lemonade money.

I recommend the video on the Q8 e-tron from YouTuber "B Sport" if you want to learn more about the car, he was an Audi engineer who worked on it and explains the history behind the car and its  shortcomings.

All that remains 'premium' about Audi is the price.

"Put the fire out yourself" Brilliant.

I had the E-tron 55. It was the worst car I have ever owned. Range was overstated by a massive margin. I had to commute from south of the Netherlands to Brussels and it had serious trouble making a one-way trip in winter. The interior was generic. And of course the fact that it is huge from the outside but interior space is tiny.
Went back to a BMW M550d Touring from 2012 with reasonable mileage. Best decision I ever made. Unfortunately the guy that stole it last year was also quite taken by it :P

Edit: Forgot to mention that the maintenance costs of the thing were out of this world. Only at Audi could a service for this car (which consisted of plugging it in to a laptop) cost more than € 500.

My problem with the etron is that in french this word means turd…

Coolant in the motor is a common problem here in Denmark. Repair costs north of 10.000 £

I have a 55' from november 2020, it has 140.000 km on it.
The best car i've ever had.❤❤

I have an Etron 2021 Technik 50. Love it ! Bought it as 2nd owner with about 13,000 miles on the clock for just under 30k (GBP). Pristine condition with the balance of Audi warranty. Had one electrical fault light come up which they fixed (something connected to aircon flow ?) cost me nothing. Had one more electrical fault light come up which cost me about 100 quid to get a broken / split wire replaced by local auto-electrical engineer.

Range - I get about 150 miles in winter in Yorks and about 220 during summer. I drive it efficiently and use regeneration. I have a home charger which costs me about 5 quid if I charge it up from 0 to 100%, but usually just charge to 80%. On the rare occasions I use a public charger, I buy Tesla monthly subscription for a month when I'm planning a trip and pay anything from 20+p to about 56p per Kw. It's done over 30,000 miles now, never broken down, no issues and no servicing costs to speak of, other than I recently replaced the tyres with the original Bridgestone Allenzas.

Upshot is, it was a good buy for my in my position and meets my car needs - the Tiger 900 GT Pro meets my other motoring needs !

Back when they first came out I drove the E-tron and the Jaguar i-Pace, and I found the Jag to be much better dynamically, more athletic, less intimidating to drive, and prettier.  The Audi had better infotainment but that didn't sway me.  Now that both of them have depreciated to 1/5 their original price, and the price of gasoline hitting the troposphere thanks to an idiot, I'm leaning toward buying an i-Pace now.

My wife had the 50 version of this for about one and a half years until it was written off in an accident. it was actually a joy to drive and the suspension (air suspension in all models I think) was excellent. Best ride in any car I’ve had and handling was good. Performance was adequate. The great bug bear was the range which was appalling. In winter we barely got 100 miles, in summer maybe 140-150.

My dog never even drops his head in car rides but when I drove him around in a e-tron he fell asleep, that’s all you need to know about the suspension setup and dead quiet cabin noise and overall NVH. I love this car and will probably buy one this year

£1000 a year for a warranty! Bargain 🙈

Gives you an idea of Audi’s confidence in their own products!

I had a Q8 e-tron Prestige (similar model to this in the US), it definitely did get 230+ miles of range, and the seats were the most comfortable of any Audi I've owned. I'm on my 6th Audi at this point - currently an S6 etron sportback. I liked just about everything about the Q8 more than my S6 except for the raw acceleration and the driving dynamics are a bit better on the S6. If it was my choice, I would've kept the Q8, but I won't get it into that..

My mum's friend had one of these. She could barely get 120 miles of motorway range, so when driving from Manchester to Cambridge she had to stop and charge halfway on each leg. Needless to say, it went back at the end of the lease.

The USA depreciation curve certainly isn't as huge as where you are, but we still bought a 2023 Chronos edition this week for $34,000 and 45k miles on it. So it's not a "steal" but since they gave me $18,000 in trade for my 2019 BMW X3 M401 with 106k miles I signed the financing without regret. It's been great so far, just need to get my Level 2 charger installed. Based on the cost to drive and recent gas prices, the BMW costs $0.24 cents per mile, while this will cost $0.03 cents when charged during off-peak hours (overnight).

Most, if not all of the legacy OEMs basically built compliance EVs thinking they were just a short-lived trend that not many people would buy giving them the excuse that no one was buying them.
Their short termism is why brands from China have such a huge lead on them now.
Also, I noticed many who said “I tried an EV and hated it, it was more expensive than my diesel Range Rover….” had plumped for the original e-tron or iPace purely down to the badge and come away severely short changed by the ownership experience.

They now make an expensive looking, but affordable school run car.

I've had a 2019 launch edition since 2023. Used was a bargain and range wasn't a concern. I have a drive way rarely drive long distances. On the odd occasion when I have, charging on route has been easy.
Only thing that has failed is a suspension strut which was covered under extended warranty. Has been a great family car.
Wouldn't dare buy one outside of warranty for peace of mind.

I was interested in this car but I read there were so many problems with the motor. The coolant could leak from the cartridge and will destroy the motor. If that happens out of warranty you’re talking about a €10k fix. Secondly the weight is a huge issue. In NL where they tax by weight this car does not make any financial sense. As you explained they went half assed with the D&D.

I was seriously considering one of these. A lot of car for the money but i couldn't get over the huge loss in depreciation.
