Here in Dublin we are also rolling out lots of these. Our main stumbling block is the depot upgrades themselves. Is there other depots on the islands for the other buses. Its more than just a new bus and charger (and that charger might charge about 3 buses overnight) . Training the staff more used to a diesel engine, training the drivers to drive somewhat differently, arranging the bus fleet overnight to charge based on what buses must go out on the morning run first, looking at routes and power use, understanding weather and battery loss, adding in everything needed to feed those new chargers, new fire safety procedures for batteries, Maintenance changes (more or less of them)

Went on one in June from cowes to Newport, it didn't care about hills and Went like a rocket!!

There are quite a few in West Yorkshire. It is noticeable the way they can accelerate as I was on one that stopped on a hill and seemed to get away swiftly.

Electric public transport vehicles are indeed a very old idea. Most UK cities had electric trolley buses at one time. Electric trains have been a thing for well over a hundred years.
This only thing that is new is that we now have practical, efficient and cheap batteries rather than overhead wires.
The oldest electric vehicle that is still in continuous service is possibly the Isle of Man Electric Railway which started in 1893.
As a child I used to hate getting stuck behind a smelly diesel bus belching black smoke while cycling to school.
Electric buses are such a great step forward. Amazing turnout to see a new bus !

They are all over London now, you are right about the quietness, it was startling at first but it now seems noisy on the odd occasion I get a diesel bus.

Excellent video Jack! May have a Ryde (sorry) on one of these when I’m next over the water. Near where I am, there are some electric single deckers flying around and they are QUICK! A bit too quick really - they must chew through the tyres!
Just thought I’d also mention, if you ever fancied experiencing the old trolleybuses - they have a fantastic collection of them running at the East Anglian Transport Museum near Carlton Colville. Really worth a look if you’re in the area.
All the best buddy!

Great episode Jack. Glad to see Southern Vectis evidently know the value of a good ambassador!

The new fleet looks fantastic. Electric buses have officially moved free steering PSVs to one notch below trams (modern as well as heritage).

Wight buses so Northern Ireland to South Island! :-) I was surprised that they didn't go for Alexander Dennis Electric Enviro 400 City buses. Also I don't thin Petrol buses have been a thing for many deacdes, they moved to diesel ages ago,

Jack, great video - saw a short clip on the County Press website and they looked impressive - looked ecen better in your video. Also hoping to be at the Wightrider event and if one of those is running it will definitely be on my list. We are still waiting for electric buses here but they are trailing driverless ones nearby in Cambridge - not sure i would want to ride one on the Military Road though!
