Appreciate you coming to me to film this comparison, Ian! Really interesting to see that you have the same annoyances with the Mondeo, that I do. I forgot to mention that I fitted a short shift kit, which is why the gear change is short. Before I fitted the kit, the gear change was like that of a Transit van!

I still think of that generation of Mondeo as a new car, and then it dawns on me that they're 20 next year...

"The Fat Corolla" 😂😂😂😂😂 brilliant!

You can't beat a MK4 Mondeo. It's a big old bus, over 5 metres long, but you can still have fun on a twisty road. I once drove mine from Manchester to the South of France in a day, and arrived completely relaxed.

I have mk3 mondeo ghia x tdci 2005 still going its cracking car

Had a mk4 tdci Mondeo and ran it to 200k miles. Great family car and it never had any issues. With its current owner and last MOT its now sitting at 270k miles. I'd happily have another.

I cant explain it but this comparison is so interesting and fascinating to me. Really need to get me one of those avensises.

Had the 2.2hdi in our recently-sadly-junked mk1 C5. Great engine!

MONDEO-MAN was an iconic branding of Mellenial Dads, who drove these and also boxy-back-end VAUXHALL VECTRAS; truly great barges with an almost dated executive corporate DAD image.

The Mondeo has bigger wheels with lower profile tyres and a 'sportier' suspension set up

I have a mk4 Mondeo titanium x estate.  They are very very good cars

To be fair to the Avensis, a newer generation came out in 2009, so a bit of a cross over in generations in those two

0:36 is that lacquer peel or lack of appeal? 😂

I had a 2.5t Mondeo. A superb car and what bargains they are now. Not for the German badge snobs who are just in it to impress their neighbours, however.

I had a mk4 mondeo. Ran it up to 180k miles. Sold it. It survived up to 260k. It did 24k up to 40k per year. It did 42mpg averaging 100mph+ in Germany over several hours. Still pulled at 125mph. Took it up to Tromso, down to Gibraltar. In Norway did 850miles before fuel light came on. Cracking car. Sold it when it started to cost me, sad but necessary.

My Dad's 10 plate Mondeo is only the Zetec model with a 2 litre TD engine but it's lovely to drive on a long trip.  Sticking it in a multi storey car park is a challenge though

gotta admit, my playlist is something else hahaha. I've just watched Mark McCann and him fretting about his Veyron, then straight onto Hubnut hahhhh

Remember seeing one of those Mondeos in the flesh when they first came out in 2007, I think it was. Looked like a car from the future when painted silver. Much like the Honda Civic of the time.

My mum had a 2012 Mondeo titanium econetic 1.6 diesel estate. She had it from when it was a year old to 2023 when I finished high school. Great car in terms of reliability mechanically but it had a few electrical issues such as the right hand side rear door not locking with the rest of the doors, left headlamp wouldn’t turn on without a good whack sometimes and the passenger window didn’t want to go up from the driver’s side. Apart from the electrics it was a great car

Not the comparison we were expecting, but a comparison we deserve nonetheless!

“Key not detected” then starts up first time regardless 🤣
