Kelly Clarkson takes on “Golden” from *KPop Demon Hunters*, originally performed by HUNTR/X, and I’m breaking down both versions!

From vocal power and tone to technique, control, and delivery, I compare what makes each performance unique and explore how these singers bring their own qualities to the same song.

👩‍🏫 ABOUT ME: After destroying my own voice at 15 and developing nodules, I've dedicated my life to helping singers avoid the same pitfalls. I've coached Bette Midler, Kevin McHale (Glee), Broadway stars, and thousands of aspiring singers just like you.

Note: Due to copyright considerations, parts of the original HUNTR/X performance had to be trimmed, so a few transitions may feel a little abrupt. You can watch the full original performance here: https://youtu.be/8y-ViyUk7Dk?is=mo6fqyyQeTzDPCcn

Kelly sang this in the original key. Ejae lowers the key for live performances.

How is it possible to compare singers or say who sings a song better when both vocals are calibrated to A440Hz standard tuning, equal temperament. Both EJAE and Kelly have sung Golden live on the Jimmy Kimmel Live TV show and the Kelly Clarkson TV show. EJAE used Auto-Tune live while Kelly's fully live authentic natural vocal was enjoyed by all those lucky souls who were in the live audience. However, the rest of us are only allowed to hear her heavily digitally pitch-"corrected" vocal which was done POST-live performance, BEFORE being uploaded to YouTube. So, we are comparing the vocals of two great singers only after these vocals have been very heavily artificially tuned. My purpose here is to ask fellow music lovers why do we put up with this and just accept that the voices of great singers are being tuned to sound like a keyboard. Why are we not up in arms about our desire to hear the beautiful authentic natural vocals of great singers and appreciate the absolute beauty of the human voice before we lose real music and authentic vocals to oblivion and all we will be left with are digital pitch correction, Auto-Tune live, lip-synching at live performances and now, AI-generated music and "artists"!?
