Absolutely Disturbing Fate of Spain’s Doomed Queen

Quintanapalla is a village near Burgos, and in 1679 the King of Spain got married there in a cottage. His bride was Marie Louise d'Orléans, niece of Louis XIV, sent from France in tears. The groom was Carlos II, the Bewitched, last of the Spanish Habsburgs and wrecked by inbreeding. Madrid gave her a court where nobody could touch the queen and an auto-da-fé staged for her wedding. For nine years she took the blame for the missing heir. She died at 26 after a supper of cold oysters, and France said poison. Madrid's rhyme: have a baby or go back to Paris.

I have an ancestor who was killed by taking the horn of a saddle to the gut. Story goes, the doctor loaded him with morphine just short of killing him and it still didn't touch the pain. He was in agony until he died.
The saddle may not have been the only culprit here, but I'd say it was definitely a factor.
