Great job, personally I would just get a whole new chassis (galv) will save you chasing your tail in the future probably more cost and time effective as well.

Really great to see. I just got a series 2a in very similar condition  also for £500. It even has the same discovery wheels.

Most land rover buyers of old models normally break it down to the chassis only as we are aware of the rust that awaits us it’s the only way to go.

Cut off the flaps on the new chassis. Weld some plates internally to old chassis to align the two halves. Butt weld them together grind flat and then make up some 4mm plates to reinforce the join. Those flaps are crap and weak especially now they’ve been bent about.

if you want to see the renovation through may I suggest you wear a grinding face shield and a guard on your grinder,

Easier to Use a flat chisel to slightly open the spring eye and knock the outer bush out. This Vid explains why I used to get so much work rebuilding Land Rovers.

I reinforced the holes for the bumper bolts by cutting off the front squares to insert tubes welded in where the bolts for the bumpers go. Otherwise there is only 2mm of metal around the holes at the top and bottom that takes the force from the bumper. With tubes inserted you can also tighten the bolts properly. Once the tubes are welded in place, weld the squares back on.

Love this build. My daughter is obsessed with the series landrover as well as the defender. Shes two now and i do want to get one of these one day for the right price and build it together.

My 1972 Series III came to me from original owners 25 years ago.  What sold me was the galvanized frame they had installed a few years prior.

Great video. I had a 1962 Mk2A short wheelbase Landy here in Australia in the late 60’s. It was an ex Army communications vehicle and had a canvas top, the 4 speed box with no synchro on first and second gears, no door locks so no keys to lose, no keyed ignition switch and no heater. I took it everywhere, wish I still had it. Awesome garage by the way..

A full new chassis would be more cost effective.

As others have said, a new, preferably galvanised, chassis is the way forward. Financial pain now or an annual visit to the welder, your choice.
The Landrover chassis is fundamentally flawed in that mud gets in and can settle in the dip behind the cab bulkhead behind the seats. That's the worst place, there are many more pockets too.
I've modified the chassis on a couple of farm only vehicles and included flushing points on the ends of the rails and a large (30mm) diameter drain point on each rail. That seemed to work pretty well.
I did repair one chassis, body off job, and was disappointed to find more MoT failure corrosion a couple of years later.

Bought my 67 2a for £500 back in 2005 decided to buy a new chassis so much easier than hours of welding on your back and replaced the chassis in around 16hrs all on my own, just a doddle to do.

Classic example of a land rover that has driven over farm fields after nitrogen phosphate fertiliser has been spread, or some plank driving it through the waves on a beach, both give the same result.

Great vid (apart from the music;) . As others have said, false economy with a landy to skimp on that chassis- get a galvanised one. Also bin those leaf springs, they are unbelievably cheap to replace . Good Luck

Enjoying vids. I have a 79 Series 3 and when time & resources allow I'm going to replace the whole chassis with new. I considered the route you're taking but feel it's more economical in the end just to do the whole job once. Good luck with the build and keeping another Landy on the road.

This is why I just ordered a new galvanised chassis . Chasing rust isn't fun or worth it in the end. I admire his work and determination though

Keep the front/left dumb iron.  It has the chassis number the DVLA might want to see.
