How did Kevin O'Connell and the Vikings fail J.J. McCarthy...or did he fail them? Usually it's a bit mutual with young NFL quarterbacks. What the J.J. McCarthy Trade to the Giants Really Means. The Minnesota Vikings have traded quarterback J.J. McCarthy to the New York Giants for a 2027 5th round draft pick. JJ will join Jameis Winston, as Jaxson Dart recovers from knee surgery. Kevin O'Connell moves on, and gives Kyler Murray a vote of confidence. #vikings #giants #nfltrade #trade #breakingnews #breakingnflnews #minnesotavikings #newyorkgiants #quarterback

Vikings front office: "Hey Kevin, we know this isn't one of the QBs you actually wanted, and we know we're trying to be in win now mode with this roster that's supposedly a QB away, but we're gonna draft the rawest project QB in the class and you have to go win with him immediately"

yeah can't imagine how this didn't work out😅

For me as a Vikings fan the #1 issue with JJ was his inability to stay healthy. Once he started in year 2 it seemed every time he was starting to turn a corner he'd get injured.

It seems quite abrupt to let him go this early but unfortunately the Vikings haven't had a stable QB situation since Kirko and even before that it seemed like a revolving carousel with some exceptions like Daunte and Teddy

I was in the "he barely threw any passes in college" camp.
Never saw it.

Congrats on 900K! I've been addicted to Pern for years now

Michgan fans watching JJ with the Vikings: "Look how they massacred my boy"

Simple he was doomed the second he was seen as a top 10 draft pick instead of being a mid round project qb. He did not look like a first round qb at all in college.

It's not much of a mystery. He was in a run Heavy blue blood college that had more talent then your average college. He was also a low volume passer. He was just a high end college game manager, but so far very below average QB in the NFL. He probably needed another year in college on a higher volume passing offense or another year on the bench once he got into the NFL.

Great way to start my afternoon by watching some fresh pern

Was a terrible pick, a terrible decision to move on from Darnold, and a terrible showing by McCarthy in training camp/preseason to not get the backup spot. Best for Vikings and McCarthy to both move on and not play into the sunk cost fallacy.

I'd wondered how Pablo Torre's investigation of Life Surge would affect Perna's love of Tim Tebow clips...

Congrats on 900k Perna and the whole TGS team behind the camera/computer. You guys deserve it!

The best ability is availability. Even if JJ has never been a throwing qb in his career, he was showing progress. The problem was he couldn’t stay healthy, that’s the biggest frustration I had as a Vikings fan

Sometimes you wonder if being anointed a football god as a high school kid makes one not receptive to coaching. Meanwhile, the guy no one wanted (Josh Allen) continues to be coachable and to improve.

To be fair to Sam, there was way more problems with the Jets than him.

For starters, he walked in to an Adam Gase problem. And we see how Adam Gase is doing with the Chargers....

Seeing those clips of Fernando Mendoza and Kirk Cousins as besties warms the cockles of my cold dead heart.

Congrats on 900k subs. Long time coming and well deserved!

because he wasn't ready and had a stacked team in college that carried him. Honestly of his draft class from the first round jj was probably drafted into the best situation.
