I’m a dad with 2 daughters. I took a sewing class to learn how to do some of these. I was the only guy and people gave he a hard time about it but it has served me well and saved a small fortune on clothes over the years.

Not just for girls. This is a useful skill for everyone.

Back in 1974 I took home economics for boys.   My counselor wanted me to take trigonometry which I took in college and I tell you I repaired more clothes and prepared many more meals than I have had the need to lay out an angle.

Every boy should know this too.

My Mom sewed but it was my Dad that taught us to see a button on. We liked to say that it wouldn't come off even in a hurricane!!! Thank you, Dad!! And Mom too, for all that you both did!!

Are guys allowed to know? This is a very valuable skill.

These all look adorable but the embroidery will not take all the wear and tear that originally made the hole.  Try backing it wit a small patch of iron-on reinforced for patches, so they will last a little longer.

As a military veteran and a man, I know most of these. Saying that every girl needs to know these is bullshit, as men would benefit as well. The title should be "...that every person needs to know."

The 8th important tip: Fix the hole as soon as you notice it =) You think: "I'll do it tomorrow," and after 3 months you just don’t know where to start, as it gets bigger.

A few days ago I was thinking about searching for a video about how to repair a hole in my shorts. But I didn't search for it and never have searched any sewing videos and I didn't say it aloud. Then this video appears in my recommended videos. Also, in the recommended videos off to the side right now is a video titled "Signs You're in a Simulation".

I didn't know embroidery could be so simple... I feel like I've been missing out on something I should've known. I'm going to give it a try.

I taught my son how to do simple sewing like small holes and buttons. He won't always have someone to do it for him. These are valuable things everyone should know.

So glad to see so many comments advocating for men and boys learning sewing, too.

I got my husband to do the mending.  He's meticulously neat and skilful at needlework!

We did this in the 70s and NOT to cover holes, but for the design😋
BUT, you're teaching a great skill and such a perfect way to cover holes.
Although, the rips and holes in jeans are a trend now😆

Why 'girl'? At my schools girls and boys did sewing, cookery, woodwork and metal work. All useful skills for males and females.

This was so calming and interesting to watch. I started wishing life's holes and tears could be fixed so easily, beautifully and effortlessly. Sigh
