The ONLY 6 War Movies Navy SEALs Say Are Realistic

Old School Movies

Hollywood loves explosions and hero moments — but real Navy SEALs say most war movies get it wrong. According to interviews, veteran commentary, and military consultants, only SIX war movies consistently earn respect for realism.

No over-the-top heroics. No endless ammo. Just raw, grounded portrayals of modern warfare that reflect the reality of combat zones.

⚠️ This video is for discussion and analysis based on publicly available SEAL interviews and military expert commentary.

I am SERIOUSLY SO GLAD HOLLYWOOD is getting actual operators , professionals ,men who have been there. I for one was sick of yelling at the TV/ theater screen"WTF nobody in their right mind would do that"and "what former admin clerk got the self a technical advisor gig?"

I am a Army veteran and I wasn’t a Special Op guy or ever served in any of the locations in any of the locations these films were set. I was in Iraq when Lone Survivor happened and we heard about it real time. All of these films are ones I love watching because just as a regular service member these movies are all close to how things go for all of us that served in combat. Things will go bad on missions and while we try to ensure we plan for everything things will always happen that you didn’t plan for and you just try to roll with it.

Interesting and I'll watch Tears of the Sun again. Lone Survivor and American Sniper were really good films !

Lone survivor: a lesson in the simple Army operational concept of NO COMMO, NO OP.

I not entirely sure, but i think the cast actually did make those falls. the cuts and bruises that Mark and co suffered were real cuts and bruises.

What about WARFARE? Best one, I think. But I wasn’t a Navy SEAL.

so i suppose you're going to completely ignore the facts that contradict lone survivor as depicted.

If Tears of the Sun did not make the list that would be a travesty. That movie is brilliant, and Bruce Willis’s best work. He fought Hollywood for 10 years to make, and made sure everything was a realistic as possible. They actually had former Navy Sesls coordinate the combat work. This movie significantly changed my view on many things in the world. It is deep, powerful, and well done!

What about Warfare? Great movie, and widely discussed as the most accurate portrayal of combat put on film since the opening D-day scene in saving Private Ryan.

Warfare anyone?

Good vid. I would argue that once you introduce protagonist in a war movie, you're making a political choice. The more sympathetic, the more political it is. A war movie that does try to remain impartial is 'Tora Tora Tora'. ' 'Apocalypse Now' still focuses on an American going after another American in someone else's country, on the other side of the planet. Honorable Mention goes to Clint Eastwood's 'Letters From Iwo Jima'.

Is this the only historical reference ( ever ) that spells out "S ... E ... A... L... 's" verses just saying "Seal's" ?

Why does this robot keep spelling seals?

Tears of the sun is my 3rd favorite “war” movie behind Pearl Harbor and zero dark 30. I appreciate those that served and paid the ultimate price for their service.
