She is maybe one of the best singers Scandinavia has produced. And we do have a few really good ones.

I love that song. She delivers with so much emotions. So good. 🙏🏻

No matter what your faith or non-faith, I think we all go through this at some point. Why am I alive? What's it all about? Why do I have to suffer such hardship? That's why this song resonates even with me as an atheist, it's a very human thing.

The musical is set in the mid 1800's, and it's about Kristina Nilsson (Helen Sjöholm) and her husband, that moves to America, against her will, to find a better life - however it's not wihout suffering.
She sings this after they've moved to America (Chisago, Minnesota), after she had a miscarriage and she's gotten sick - so she struggles a lot with her faith, and as you said, she's angry and afraid at the same time.
Helen does a great job to portray the desperation and anger.

On a side note; The entire musical is based on Vilhelm Mobergs books "Utvandrarna" which has also been adapted into movies. 💚

A powerful song. And a powerful lady with a convincing and beautiful voice.

From your grandparents homeland of Sweden, I send you much love.
Thanks you for the reaction.

Not just the voice and skill, the performance and feeling 👍

She is a treasure of Sweden 🇸🇪

This clip is from a tv show that we saw on christmas eve in the 90´s, My older brother just screamed for the family to come watch. The face of the lady in the choire is an amazing tale.

06:40 That facial expression is amazing. The switch into tired defiance and then the sudden surrender again. The pleading.
It unnerves me. Like a desire to protect her. To sacrifice for her. An old emotion. A fragment of history from when we had to stand against whatever lurked in the dark shadows. A shield to block the monster's charge. An axe to drive it back into darkness.

The crisis of faith Kristina goes through is so powerfully portrayed in the lyrics and Helen’s performance, no matter how many times I listen to this I get goosebumps all over. It’s such a deeply human crisis to go through, no matter what you believe or don’t believe in.

This is from a musical by Björn and Benny in ABBA. Which is about when many Swedes (just like your grandmother) immigrated to the US for a better life, but it became tough for many. Another song from the musical is called When The Gold Turned to Sand (Peter Jöback - Guldet blev till sand)

I believe this particular show was filmed in Minnesota, the state that a great many Swedes settled in after leaving their miserable lives in Sweden to reach the land of gold (That unfortunately turned to sand)

She is truly one of a kind. Amazing woman. Greatings from Sweden. Take care 🙏

That right there is called a nationalklenod

Music transcends human nature regardless of language!

I recommend 'Gabriellas Sång" also a powerful song sung by Helen Sjöholm❤

Probably the most high-impact song I've heard as a Swede, given that most of us (same as your grandparents) have had relatives who at some point emigrated from Sweden to the US 100+ years ago. I'm sure it's been suggested already as well, and I know you said you had to stop taking suggestions, but do check out Peter Jöback's performance from the same musical, singing "Guldet blev till sand" ("The gold turned into sand - about one of the family members when in the US venturing west to California, to hunt for gold, but failing, and returning back to his family a broken man).

It's from "Kristina" a musical by the Bs in ABBA about the 1,4 million Swedes who emigrated to the US, mainly the northern states. The concert is from Minnesota and the audience are all descendents of Swedish emigrants. The musical is loosely based on true events.

As a swede this is a song I grew up hearing this now and then on the radio as "background noise" when I was a child. I liked the song then, but it was often covers or the like and, well, I was a child, so the impact just wasn't really there. Just a few months ago now that I am older I rediscovered this song and saw this video for the first time, and I was gobsmacked for lack of a better word. As good as it is in the english subtitles, it's so intense, gritty, and profound in swedish, it brings me to tears every time I hear it.

Fun fact is that three days (!!) after watching this video as an adult for the first time, I was going to film a choir concert for my dad who is a mens choir director. Each year they have previously announced "poster" guests and also secret guests that are unveiled after maybe 1/3 of the show, and as I get there I am told that one of the secret performers is none other than Helen Sjöholm! She is now in her 50's but her voice still holds incredibly well, and especially during the actual show was still enough to make me emotional even sitting behind a camera. Incredible singer, and was a joy to work with in the words of my father! I never interacted with her directly, but I was waiting to speak to my dad while they were getting their makeup done, and she seems like the most down to earth superstar (albeit more to the previous generation) ever! Nothing but praise!
