47 years of hard work and rewarding days of me VS nature, geology of God's earth
You're reminded of God with each strike and pull, gravity, sun, humidity of Florida to arid air of the southwest
I would pray for a breeze or a cloud to shade the brutal sunshine
Now it's just distance memories
And aches and pains
Once you commit to the lifestyle of a stonemason it follows you your entire life, every day
Laying brick
Laying block
Laying marble
Laying tiles
Laying class block
Setting anything
Takes all the disciplines of the building trades
Actually masonry set the pace and Rules
Level
Square
Plumb
Bond
Symmetry
All demanded with each unit
Each return
Each course
Each wall
Each foundation
Each slab
Without the rules strength is lost
WITH IT ALL STRENGTH IS GAINED
IT rules you
It rules your day
It rules your material use and management
Apprentice always look at hundreds of pallets saying How long will it take
I always say
One brick at a time
Before you know it
The empty pallets stacked up
And the brick walls grew up to the sky
The local church still has a section of the original building that my folks made and built.
We have one of the molds frame that is now being used as a shelve in my bedroom!
