The value proposition of the Miata is unbeatable. But there are certain intangibles beyond as to why many who had an S2000 never sell them. Much of what Honda's engineers learned and R&D from developing the NSX was directly applied to the Honda S2000 to celebrate its 50 year anniversary. It's just a point in time special moment in Honda's history which will never be repeated--the S2K got a bespoke engine, chassis, etc., which is just unheard of today. When you spot an S2000 on the road, it's an experience--it moves your senses (if you know you know kind of car). When you see a Miata, it is a Miata. Much respect to Mazda for committing to the platform for over 35 years. We need to continue to support companies like Mazda and buy new Miatas. Honda, however, does not have the same level of commitment to the RWD sports car as Mazda and left S2000 owners behind a long time ago.

Great video. Have owned examples of both cars. Ended up settling on the NC. Each car has a magic point. The NC's magic point for me is as a modified street car that you can road trip, canyon drive, and take on the track. The S2K's magic point is a no expense spared track car. Those are just the 2 standout points for each car in my experience. You can't go wrong with either.

I was looking for an S2K when I saw a Miata near me for $3K and I couldn’t pass it up. Swapped cars with my coworker and fell in love with his S2K. Would love to one day add one to my garage, but the price differences make me want to stay team Miata. The S2K is a wonderful machine though, especially that shifter and intake noise (V-Tech YO!).

I own a 2008 mx5, love everything about it. Had a chance to drive an s2000 many years ago. I have to say the Honda s2000 has the best transmission Ive ever driven

The NC is phenomenal if you know your use case. I picked up my NC2 as my only car when I was single in my 20s for combined daily/fun weekend car duties. I learned to appreciate the compromise between great ride/liveability and RWD thrills. The extra suspension travel versus other sports cars can actually add to the fun on some crappy backroads. I have never scraped through any high speed bump even at ridiculous speeds, and you can get it fully airborne over crests without too much worry. Some drives I can still remember just crying laughing at the ridiculousness. It feels like you can put it in situations where you'd be too scared to push more esoteric sports cars. Mazda really punched above their weight with the NC, it just has such a quality, well-screwed-together feel that doesn't come across in video. Now that it's my second car and doesn't get used nearly as much, an S2000 would probably fulfill that role better, but the NC has given me so many unforgettable drives.

Nice video, love the commentary and perspective. It’s rare that I find an S2000 more capable on the track than my NC. But they are great cars. Hard to justify one when the NC exists at the price point

I think the Mazda sounds better and the torque curve is a little more street friendly. S2000s have some magic sauce though.

Yes Honda inputs are so good even to this day; part of the reason I switched to a 2020 manual civic hatch from my 18 WRX. Even that car has amazing inputs, almost as good as my S2K
