These days a haunted house would fetch a premium

Warren still lives but is much vexed. He wore out his welcome in Japan. The locals are feeding him a steady diet of Shiokara (fermented mollusks), Natto (fermented soy beans), and Inago no tsukudani (caramelized grasshoppers) to encourage his departure. The yoki are still a menace.

I got even more excited when my home town was mentioned in "The shining hand". Longtown is a grim and uninteresting place.

The shining hand would be a great name for a car wash

We need a Hauntometer that measures the temperature outside a haunted place in comparison to its center. The greater the drop in temperature, the more diabolical the haunt’s manifestation. Considering the current rising temperature of the Earth, it might be useful to visit haunted places and rile up a few ghosts just to generate some icy relief from the heat.

Didn't realize Dick Donovan was a pen name of J.E. Muddock. I missed that somehow, but I am old. 💀

A great collection of short stories! Very well written, and oh so expertly and expressively spoken!
I especially love, throughout the writing, the use of words and terms that have, over the years, had their meaning subtly or substantially changed, like the word 'impressed'.
Edit: and listening to all these stories, that have been written by various clever and creative types many decades ago, has had a direct and hopefully positive influence on the way I, myself, now write!
