always wear a helmet kids

“Maybe you should wear a helmet?” AMEN sister!!!

You guys make a pretty good case for wearing helmets

Lots of comments about how lucky he was not to have been hit in the head by that rock, but not enough attention on how lucky she was to not have had her rope severed by the rock. Unbelievably close call. It's mindboggling to me that she kept climbing after such a close call like that. It would've been so easy for the rope to have taken a devastating core shot that couldn't be seen from the ground.
For anyone watching, should this ever happen to you: please build an anchor immediately and check the full length of your rope before continuing to climb or lower. (And, also, wear a helmet!)

Nobody getting hit, the rope not getting damaged, and getting you leg caught while not wearing a helmet but not head-butting the wall, all in one climb is INSANE luck. This is not how you manage risk.

Brittney's fall was also VERY close to a traumatic brain injury. Both the belayer and climbers here would have been much safer with a helmet, this video is a great pair of examples of that. It'd be nice if Tom and Pete used their role in the community to be that example.

Nice Helmet commercial right there :D

Scary, it looks like the rock hit the rope exactly on the edge 😱

I'd love to see a follow-up to this video, given the consistency of the comments so far. I thought I was going to be a sole grumpy old guy moaning about helmets and safety, but I was really encouraged to see how many others had already made the same observations. Made me really happy to know there were loads of other people who saw the same thing here

"That would have been a trip to the ER Gavin"

the frame at 6:50 is "giant printing material" oO

Genuinly curious Tom: it appears that after the incident Mary has her helmet on while climbing, but somehow you still keep belaying without a helmet. Did you not bring more than one helmet to begin with, or was there any other consideration that I've missed?

Stoked to see Mary Catherine Eden, tradprincess, out with ya'll- she's awesome and underrated. Put her full name for the algorithm. Keep at it and be safe dudes.

Wear helmets, you have a huge audience and influence lots of less informed people. Not even mentioning that you learned a lesson or would do something differently (besides 1 off-handed/snide comment) is borderline negligence

Wow, shocked Tom didn't mention anything about wearing a helmet there, extremely lucky to walk away unscathed

Falling rock tends to bounce and push out, so you're often best moving really close in to the wall to dodge it.

A very thin microwave.

1. Helmet
2. Don't continue on a rope that's just been hit.

Feel like I'm taking crazy pills because everyone says that foot looked bomber. It looked like a hanging thin flake detached on 3 sides to me!!!
