I have what appears to be an identical block plane purchased under the Craftsman name from SEARS in the early 70's. I like it because of it's light weight and prevents fatigue from one handed use. Craftsman No. 187.37052 DD printed on blade

You sir are an innovative man. You see what you want and go for it. You pointed out the pros and cons of each plane. I like it. You have made a Frankinplane. But it works for you and your style. Rock on my good man.

I feel bad I dissed the blade because since I made this modification video I put that old blade into sharpening spa and it is excellent tool steel with fantastic edge holding properties. So I was not counting on it being so good.
