If I had a buck for every time I've watched this scene, I could sit down with these guys.

No artificial intelligence, no special effects, just superb scripts, acting and delivery. Thank goodness that these classics have been captured and immortalised so that generations to come will be able to enjoy them as much as we do now.

The biggest rat was Lonergan's sidekick sitting behind Paul Newman! His facial expression when his boss lost the hand was priceless.

The way Robert Shaw manages to combine extreme menace with being laughable is as brilliant an acting masterclass as one could ever see.

At the beginning, Mr. Clemens says it is "table stakes" game, meaning you can't buy more chips during the hand. Therefore, some people referred Lonnegan buying more chips during the climactic hand as a goof or a blooper, but I disagree. This is clearly his game and the rules that apply to the others don't apply to him.
