Always waiting for the reef tanks

Just one small piece of advice: put the filter floss inside the filter socks — it's easier to clean that way. You just remove the dirty filter floss from the socks, and put the clean one, and it will reduce the time you need to spend cleaning the entire sock. If you're worried about slowing the flow, that's what the big valve is for; you'll have to play with it a bit.
I'm also surprised that the people at UNS didn't mark the maximum and minimum water levels in the sump. Usually, prefabricated sumps have markings to help with the initial setup, so that what happened to you — an overflow from the sump — wouldn't occur. The amount of headspace for emergency overflow in a sump is very important in case of pump failure or power outages, so that the tank drains the exact amount of water without overspilling the sump.
I am not in to the saltwater aquatics, but my two good friends are, so I learned a lot from them, and now I am passing the experience and the knowledge for others.

Edit: I also forgot to mention, the emergency pipe, which is supposed to drain the tank to a certain water level in the sump, also acts as a backup to prevent the tank itself from overflowing if the main pipe gets clogged.

More reef content please

cant wait to see the reef grow and mature!

Been waiting for this video for a while!! :)

Super excited! Can't wait to see what happens next!

Reefers lets go!!

such a gorgeous man!

great choice of spots out of the two possible

Following along!

Yay a new video.

hella early, also good setup man, my tank is being built, after its done ill be setting it up

You will get some crazy big copeods in the sump, the stuff of nightmares!

Amazing ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

tank is so good that it comes with builtin puzle 😅

Nice Mark!    Make sure you stack the deck in your favor: that is, do things that make things hard on dinos (which are inevitable) in terms of seeding with live rock, bacteria supplement(s) and not blasting the tank with too much LED light.

Another great video. You've had your first lesson in sump-man-ship!  🤣
Some suggestions if I may.
Move the light brackets further apart. It looks wonky having the hanging wires go up at an angle.
Don't use or depend on a backflow valve to prevent floods. Marine organisms will grow within the valve and prevent it from sealing. Do exactly what you did, shut off return pump to make sure there isn't too much water in the system.
Once you get a skimmer you can adjust the overflow between the skimmer compartment and the one to the left.
Get the auto topoff set up. It will make your life sooooo much easier.

Id recommend adding a 1 way check valve. Super amazing build, love the videos. New subscriber!

Love

I had a Discus tank many years ago, I want to get back in the hobby, thinking about going with saltwater, this video was very helpful.
