My understanding of Progressive Islam is that they want to be like Christians i.e. interpreting the Quran according their whims and desires, without any guidelines that Prophet Muhammad gave in the sunnah!!!
Really enjoyed listening to Dr. Kaminski. I’ll try to locate his work as he’s expressed some very valuable points and I appreciate academic minded people
Progressive Islam is the weakening that happened to Christianity. There is no reason to compromise on Islam. Orthodoxy is always the way forward along with abiding by the Sunnah. Islam and Muslims should have no desire to water down Islam to fit with western liberal ideology.
Faith and worldly education are two different things. Since we have come into this world, we need to learn, gain knowledge, conduct research, and develop critical thinking in order to understand and live our lives better. Faith is about Allah, the purpose of human existence, morality, and understanding right and wrong, whereas worldly education helps us understand the world and deal with its practical matters. The Quran primarily guides us about why human beings exist, our relationship with Allah, and how to distinguish between right and wrong. It is not necessarily meant to be a technical textbook for subjects such as physics, medicine, technology, or economics. For those areas, human beings need observation, reasoning, education, and research. Faith and knowledge are not enemies; they can exist in their own domains and together help us understand both our purpose and the world we live in.
Please make a video on the fitna of Islamic modernism and Hadith skepticism in India (where it originated) and the various thinkers like Syed Ahmed Khan, Abdullah chakralwi, ghulam Ahmed pervez, the farahi school of thought, and Javed ahmed ghamidi.
I would be fascinated to know if Dr Kaminski has engaged with the theological framework of Javed Ahmad Ghamidi, particularly his placement within the Farāhī–Iṣlāḥī school of Qur'anic coherence (nazm). As highlighted in The Oxford Handbook of Islamic Reform, Ghamidi’s text-first methodology offers a distinct hermeneutical break from both traditional madhhabism and Mawdūdī-style political Islam. Whether Dr Kaminski agrees or disagrees with this methodology, hearing his academic assessment of Ghamidi’s position relative to 'Progressive Muslims' would be immensely beneficial.
