Mitch Marner is one of the most talented — and polarizing — players in hockey.

From growing up a Maple Leafs fan to becoming a hometown star in Toronto, Marner’s career has been filled with elite play, playoff heartbreak, contract controversy, fan backlash, and an eventual move to the Vegas Golden Knights.

Was Marner misunderstood, unfairly blamed, or unable to meet the pressure of playing in Toronto?

This is the story behind Mitch Marner.

Is the Marner hate in Toronto too much or is it well deserved? 🤔

Loved his 3k Yellow Turtleneck sweater he was wearing during one of the press conferences during the playoffs. 🤣

Forgot to add the fact that in the middle of the 2024-2025 season the Leafs offered him 8x13.5 mill (just abit more than Matthews btw) and he still said no

If Marner had a different agent it might have been different

So Mitch Marner is the James Harden of NHL?

Marner was brilliant and frustrating at the same time. The breakup was probably best for both sides, but the personal abuse was never okay.

Marner should've been a life long leaf, his dad and Ferris did their best job gassing up his ego, when you are paid as much as the one of the best goal scorers in the league the expectations will be high. His first contract after the ELC should've landed in between Matthews and Nylander, if he was paid 1.5 to 2 mill less than Matthews a lot of heat would be off of him.

Left and was the best playoff guy and almost won the cup... hope him the best

08:45 This is what a lot of non-Toronto hockey fans miss about the reason why Leafs fans were so hard on MItch over the years. He DEMANDED the huge money, and that's fine, but that comes with a huge spot light and expectations.

The only way Marner's deal could have been "team friendly" was if it was 8 years

I feel Mitch’s dad ruined his son’s reputation in Toronto…who here has heard anything good about Paul marner ? Mitch just wanted to play hockey his contract was too big for him that’s why he couldn’t handle the criticism…no other ex leaf players share his “mistreatment” from the club or the fans” Sundin left Toronto high and dry during his last year and went to Vancouver yet the fans still love the guy…Mitch and his team made his bed…his dad picked Vegas for him…I just hope his dad doesn’t take his sons money at the end

You actually got this the other way around Marner used the city of Toronto as a scapegoat for his problems. Toronto never had a problem with Marner, marners thin skin for not being able to take a lick of criticism is his problem.

Did certain fans cross the line? Yes. Did Mitch Marner and his camp do themselves any favours from a PR standpoint? No.

Stop with blaming of the fan base and start looking in the mirror and the people around you .. They spent more time worrying about who got more and who gets blamed more then how can I make the team better .. Why is Mitch now okay getting paid less then Jack Eichel now and Mitch has had a better career ... Why is he not thinking about who the Captain of Vagas is now ? Maybe he is having more fun playing hockey cause of the simple fact he is just playing hockey and not worrying about his place importance to the team

Please also spam that dislike button the fact they got away with posting this is wild work its a trash video by someone who clearly is uneducated on the situation and just hates the leafs thats not what a channel like this should post.
