I'm put off at how not alarmed the bookstore gal is at being accused directly to the police, of a major crime, I'd be raising hell from the rooftops.

I gave it a thumbs-down, not because of the writing, but because of the narrator. It sounds like she is bored & is just reading words, adding inflection at random like an AI.
