The magic of the FA cup. We never knew what we had until the magic was sapped away.

It felt like Wembley was just a shared venue for Everton and Liverpool throughout the 80's, endless Cup Final appearances, Charity Shields you name it

A wonderful final and such an emotional occasion. Those Liverpool players never got the credit they deserved everything they went through, and they still manage to carry on unbelievable heart and strength

Remember watching this game on Grandstand. Very hot day, very good game. John Aldridge scoring so early opened up game. 3rd All Merseyside Cup final in 6 years, and 5th Wembley game between them since 1984 including 2 Charity Shield games. Liverpool win made it extra special as dedication to 97 Hillsborough victims, only losing out on Double the following Friday. Probably first time Stewards were booted and dressed similar in White shirts and orange bibs.

The way we sang YNWA during there national anthem was tear jerking! Y N W A ❤❤❤❤

UK Retro,
Thanks as always for the 1989 Cup Final. Very enjoyable, dramatic & absorbing game although I have to say that despite that, in the light of the tragic events of Hillsborough, I felt & honestly still do, that the FA Cup should have been withdrawn for that season. RIP to those who died & commiserations to their families.

Mr Burns being introduced to the Legendary Liverpool Team .

Despite no backpass rule this game seems more free flowing than some of the most recent cup finals lol

What a great memory for me and all the Liverpool fans. We could have won the double that year but arsenals Michael Thomas scored in the last seconds

thank you EVERTON and your magnificent fans , a credit to our great city 🏙

Good kits back then

Apart from winning league in 1990 probably the last great occasion Lfc were involved in until 2005. Yes they won stuff in between but it was not stuff to tell your grandkids about.

Good day. Thank you so much for the posting match. Enjoyed of course. Bravo. Clicked the like button with pleasure. Lots of love and greetings from your subscriber. County Azerbaijan, Baku city.💚💚💚💙💙💙💜💜💜

The pitches were massive in the 80s

The amount of space Rush had in the box for the winner was ridiculous; two defenders a full 5 yards either side of him. HIs first goal is my all time favourite goal. I saw this game as a 8 year-old kid and never forgot it. Thanks for the upload. 👍

Brilliant video ❤

A non Everton win that will stay with me forever Great game sad times .. even as a 9 year old I wanted to win as an Evertonian so much but understood what the bigger picture ment🥹.. Ian Rush again aswell🤮🥴

John Motson commentary was something else: …” and John Barnes has become a very dangerous customer…”

Yes - a very special match for obvious reasons .  Football was much better then , I honestly believe the premier league finished football off ❤
