Band Maid is often billed as metal, but they are a rock band at heart that incorporates elements of metal, punk, pop, jazz, funk, basically whatever they feel like as they have no limits. The next song you hear may have a totally different feel and vibe than Dice. If you strip away the "labels", lipstick, maid outfits, and the fact they are all female, what you have is five extremely talented musicians who have progressed and grow into the best rock band on the planet. 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🔥🙂

Suggest Onset (Live) for more display of these ladies musicianship and talent.

"They can play"

Me: Oh, lord, they have no idea :)

Their live pieces are phenomenal. Onset, Play, Freedom, and Domination are exceptional.

Band Maid is my fave new group. I'd suggest the following songs by them: Thrill, Moratorium & Domination (live)

MISA! MISA! MISA!

Holding the line in solid Guitar Rock, Band Maid has picked up the Mantle of Rock'n'Roll where the West has left it behind!

More Band Maid Always!!
Best Band Maid is Live Band Maid!!

Put your Kitsune UP!! Po!

They're a Rock n Roll band. The maid outfits are to create the "Gap" meaning the difference between what you see "demure maid" vs the hard rock you're hearing. They write, arrange and produce their music, even deciding the order for the songs on their albums. The band was founded by Miku Kobato in 2013. All the members were professional session/backup musician/singers. MISA, bassist, creates her bass lines from the Kanami's (lead guitar) music sent via internet. Akane, drums, does the same. Miku is the primary lyricist with Saiki, lead vocals, recently contributing lyrics. Saiki was the last to join the band, she was tricked into joining, her words!!  In 2019 they had 5 sold-out concerts in the US, NYC, Dallas, and LA.

The song is about leaving your comfort zone, taking a chance, rolling the “Dice”. Go back and watch the girl in the cut scenes. At first she’s withdrawn and hiding behind the blindfold, but as it goes on, she starts to look around, finally taking off the blindfold, then walks towards the light. She’s getting up to take a chance.

Alot is lost in translation from Japanese to English, but you get the essence of the lyrics. Miku(rhythm guitar & 2nd vocals, band founder) is the primary lyricist. Most songs start out kind of tragic/sad/pain but end in a positive note lyrically. As an old fart with an eclectic music taste (classic,  big bands, jazz, funk, punk, blues, rock, especially metal, etc.)who has seen some of the greatest bands of all time, I will say these ladies bring something different and familiar to the ears as well as a big smile! Y'all need to check out there live performances.  Pick one, anyone ;*)

Thank you for doing a video on BAND-MAID!  Their genre can change from song to song, but the playing it always top notch.

Japanese translations to English can be difficult from what I hear.  As I understand it, the song is trying to inspire someone to stop living so conservatively but to roll the dice and live life.  YMMV

Hey guys! Awesome reaction, you need to hear DOMINATION (live), i think you will love it!

I feel like you guys would be interested in hearing one of band-maid's heavier songs like Rinne. Puzzle is also a great song of you can find the video still.

That was an impressively sophisticated reaction. At first I was like, "Oh no, they're gonna be disappointed it isn't total METAAAAAAL" but obviously you're both knowledgeable and open-minded.

Band-Maid IMO is very positive and uplifting, but in a very aggressive or determined way; not so much "everything's great" as "I will make things better." They're a perfect blend of prettiness and grit, musically. The lyrics to this one are usually summed up as "Take a chance!" which could be interpreted romantically or as about choosing one's path in life - which is where your mention of the maid cafe culture gets interesting. Miku, the rhythm guitarist/second vocalist, founded the band after working in a maid cafe after a brief, unfulfilling stint as a minor league "idol" singer, and re-reading the translated lyrics I can definitely see them as an expression of her trying to get a break in the music biz (the saga of which is too long for this comment but is pretty damn inspiring).

The problem with this interpretation is that she is pretty firm that none of her lyrics are based on personal experience (except for "Smile," their thank-you to the fans, which Miku was so self-conscious about that she was happy it was only a b-side on a single). Then again...writers can put their personal feelings into their words without even realizing it.

I can't  begin to suggest a next song because I love them all, but the thing is that even if one doesn't fall in your favorite genre (because their range is wiiiide), it's gonna be better than most other groups' songs in that category because Band-Maid will blend elements of several other genres into it.

More Band-Maid! Please.

I'm not a "drummer person" by any stretch of the imagination, but Akane is a beast on the drums. She's amazing.

Band-Maid is just fantastic and refreshing and they mix a lot of styles and bring all the different elements seamless together. Absolut fantastic musicians and live an experience. I would recomend:
Domination live February 2020 or the Music Video for Rinne - one of their heaviest song so far (but not the shortened live version for TV).

Great Reaction!! BAND-MAID rocks a live stage even harder! Thank You!

I recommend the another all-female japanese POWER METAL band. "LOVEBITES"
LOVEBITES / When Destinies Align(Official MV)
LOVEBITES / Holy War(Official live MV)
LOVEBITES / Thunder Vengeance(Official live MV)
LOVEBITES / Swan Song

Thanks for giving Band-Maid a chance even though they aren’t a metal band. Glad you enjoyed what you heard. They are an awesome band that incorporates many elements of many genres into their songs and they’ve declared a few turns already that they aren’t a metal band and they aren’t even really a hard rock band either. They are trying to consistently produce their band-maid rock sound. They are a really quirky group also if you ever find the time to find out a little bit more about the members themselves. Stay safe!
