In 1978 a film would be released into underground cinema for the most extreme viewers. Scenes of autopsy, accidents, and even cannibalism Faces Of Death spawned an infamy the world had yet seen. Death on Screen for your own personal enjoyment except for the fact at least 80% of the film was faked. Today we'll look at the morbid legacy and influence on media and the eventual foreshadowing of its existence over the real world grouping of gore compilations like MDPOPE.

So take a seat for this Morbid Media!

I knew people would be upset I pointed out the misogyny in the one film, if you think I'm saying that's worse than the films you obviously are not paying attention. I've spoken at least 5+ times on the issues around gore and this is obviously not a promotion in favor of these films. I'm not saying someone being a misogynist is worse than the death of people it's me pointing something out jfc

honestly i feel like you're one of the few people that makes informational videos about these things while still being actually human and treating the people in the themes like real humans too
:(( also calling out how exploitative the whole thing is and being real about it! i think it's such a huge huge problem how real life violence is consumed by kids especially little boys and all these grown ass people make it so cool fun edgy while it's fucked up

"During the early and late sixties - so just the sixties" gave me a little laugh 😂

never let the people whining about shit like pointing out misogyny and examining the psyche behind draws to horror -- that humanist perspective is why I love this channel so much

See, I consider myself a "gorehound", but only when it's fake. I love good sfx. The real shit? Seeking that out is pretty fucked up imo.

You've no idea how happy I am to learn that monkey scene was fake. That disturbed part of me for YEARS

33:15 I feel like the fact that he felt comfortable enough to include that audio really shows the morality of gore. They can justify it as much as they want but at the end of the day they are actively seeking out footage real people with real injuries/deaths for their own enjoyment.

I saw the pig scene about 25 years ago on a public access TV station showing an anti animal testing documentary. The line they said was "Does this look like science to you? "

Seen first 3 faces and first trace. It wasn't a good idea for a young mind, but it prepared me to work in surgery.

I'm a horror film fanatic, but I am so against the killing of animals. I think that is so disgusting!

Thank you for that quote

The fact that Faces of Death was dubbed into Portuguese is one of the things that sticks in my mind the most, it shows how much of a craze it was back in the VHS era.

I appreciate you calling out the racism honestly. I mean it is very interesting to see how much of the gore is just tied to bigotry (racism transphobia misogyny). There's something to be said there but i feel the message would get boiled down to gore bad instead of acknowledging these deeper rooted issues

Kier-La Janisse, author of House of Psychotic Women, recently started work on a documentary about these pseudo snuff/mondo films based on (and named after) the book “Killing for Culture.”

These movies are the horror equivalents of ragebait comments on tiktok

Fun fact, the rap group Bone Thugs and Harmony, were big fans of Faces of Death. Their first album was called Faces of Death. And they use an actual audio clip from the first Faces of Death in their song Die Die Die.
