Moved from OpenCode to Pi for local LLMs back in June and haven’t looked back — ghostty + herdr + neovim + pi (customizing itself)+ tuicr + lazygit + gastownhall beads has been one helluva good time!!

Great episode. I'm relieved to hear someone that is very open to this tech also say they still intensely supervise these things.

I live in pi and tmux and for the last 2 weeks, k3, with tmux/pi extensions modeled on herdr (Luddite I know) and I read the code too based on how these things really perform. We've not turned some corner yet where fire and forget is sane IMO.

Vibe coder here. I started an Android app project with Fable and it pushed out like 80% of the request with like 2-3 prompts and started rotting when trying for that last 20%. Upon inspection, Fable had completely re-rolled JSON-RPC so I had it rebuild from the ground up. Once again, I got to the last 10-20% and I wasn't paying attention and Fable dropped the Room database from the first version and completely rerolled Room3 abstractions in the second version. So now I am starting again but taking it much slower and paying attention.

Man I love Dillon, that's exactly how I work, I like short steps with AI, I do the planning, I decide how the codebase looks. I let AI bounce ideas with me, suggestions, research, get me information, do, undo, re-do code. I don't like agent doing long tasks, yes AI takes me from A to B if I ask it to, but the code won't look how I want it to look if I'm not there. I really like Dillon's setup, I'm curious what does he use for system safety and sandboxing, or does he let Pi run without any of that? I used Pi without sandbox for long time, but then I read Pi suggestions and forums and I developed the fear that one day I will get the wrong AI dice roll and it will do something I don't like.

It's refreshing to hear about other people strugle and work in the same way I experience working with agents and not the "happy path" flow like all blog posts these days
