This isn’t music, it’s a masterpiece, the likes of which you’ll never have again. Two extremely unique talents

It should be noted that while Freddie Mercury is indeed singing with an opera singer, this song is in no way "opera." The "chick" (who's more than a decade Freddie's senior lol) is Catalonian opera diva Montserrat Caballé who was one of the most respected and adored sopranos of all time.

Freddie was already diagnosed and she was the very few people he told.  She adored getting out of the tight structure of opera and learning how to let go and feel free to move and interpret.  They both taught each other a lot.  Freddie worked very hard creating these songs.  It was a gigantic accomplishment for him.  Monserrat came to the unveiling of his famous statue in Montreux Switzerland with his mother and family and close friends.

Montserrat was one of the greatest female Singer of all time, both legends

Freddie was so much more than a rock singer. This was the first crossover between a rock singer and an opera diva in the history. Montserrat Caballé was one of the greatest sopranos of the last century who was brave enough to dive herself into a whole new musical field that Freddie offered to her, because she very soon realized The Musician in Freddie. They adored each other, became good friends very quickly, both of them had the same sharp sense of humor. Pls, check out the Golden Boy at La Nit 88, that's more dramatic with a little surprise in it based on Freddie's diversity.

She was a great Spanish operadiva, they made a whole album together. Try How can I go on next❤

"A match made in heaven". You couldn't have uttered truer words.

This was, effectively, his farewell.
It's magnificent.

After Barcelona was selected to host the 1992 Summer Olympics, Mercury was approached to write a song as a theme for the forthcoming games. The idea was to create a duet with Caballé, as she was from the city. He had been a long-standing admirer of her and she in turn grew to respect his talents very highly. This was recorded in 1987.

With this album, my "rock is not music" father became a Freddie Mercury fan, especially when he realized that Freddie Mercury was not only the singer but also the composer.

The song became the theme for Barcelona Olympics a year after Freddie passed away. It gives me chills to watch it.

There are only 2 words needed to describe this song. Musical PERFECTION!!!

Apparently she asked Freddie to sing this song he wrote with her for the Olympics in Barcelona. He told her that he would be gone by that time. So sad.

This was written by Freddy for the olympic games in Barcelona. He was a huge fan of Montserrat.  When he was introduced to her he thought she would be great for his song. They remained friends until his death.

Freddie was everything. He danced the songs. He was the best singer ever.

Freddie absolutely loved the opera and fell in love with Monsarate the moment he heard her sing, he was quoted as saying that she had the most beautiful voice he’d ever heard, they became great friends and recorded a whole album together!
There’s a part in the performance where Freddie kisses her hand, she said in an interview that he’d began to cry during the performance, they had recorded the song for the Barcelona olympics which wasn’t being held until a few years later and Freddie had suddenly realised that he probably wouldn’t still be here to perform it at the games 😭 he had kissed her hand to distract the crowd 😭😭😭💔
,

How Can I Go On by these two is a magnificent song.

Montserrat Caballé, Spain, Opera Diva, considered one of the greatest sopranos of the twentieth century and of course the great Freddie Mercury, English, the leader and singer of Queen

This amazing performance is, I believe filmed at the prestigious "Ku Club" on the Spanish island of Ibiza,  first performed in late 1987 and silenced forever the detractors who claimed that it would be a disaster for both musical superstars. To combine two such wildly different musical genres  was an impossibility it was claimed, even with such legendary performers as Freddie Mercury, international superstar from the world of Rock music and equally legendary Spanish born opera Diva(I use the term in it's original meaning here) Montserrat Caballe, who many consider to be one of the greatest  Operatic Soprano's ever.  Luciano Pavarotti, Montserrat's life long friend and sometimes co performer, even went so far as to accuse her. of betraying her operatic heritage. The first actual meeting between the two musical giants took place in Barcelona, which is where Montserrat had ben born and spent most of her life. Within minutes of their first greeting it was obvious that there was a powerful connection between the two, who were to become life-long devoted friends. Shortly after their first meeting Freddie with his musical maestro colleague, Mike Moran began composing the epic duet as a tribute to his new friend, being not only where she had been born, lived most of her life but was also the venue of their first meeting. Their very first live performance , at the "Ku Club, Ibiza, was received with deserved wild rapturous acclaim and they had silenced all their critics forever.
Subsequently the epic anthem was use with Freddie's and Montserrat's enthusiastic approval, as the central part of the successful bid by the organising committee, to host the 1992 Summer Olympic Games, in Barcelona. Perhaps the most sensational performance of this powerful anthem, took place at the "La Nit Centro de Cultura" in Barcelona in October of 1988, as part of lavish celebrations, to officially welcome the Olympic flag to the then, next Host city..!!
Sadly Freddie was to finally lose his fight from complications of his fight with "A.I.D.S", 7months before the Olympics Games started, but the powerful duet had unanimously become the city's official anthem for the games, with recordings being played frequently for the duration. Montserrat only performed the duet once after Freddie's demise, and that was to a recording of his voice, but the emotional turmoil was too much for her and from then on she preferred to keep it as a private, treasured memory of her true and devoted friend. Sadly she too has now passed, but thanks to technology we can still marvel at and be enthralled by such a Musical and magical, masterpiece...!!

R. I. P to both.
