I worked at a gas station on the west coast of Canada in the early 80's and the Volkswagen Beetle was the most common car on the road at the time. Number two went to the Honda Civic. There were on top of that the Carmin Gias and the Vans so yes they did dominate the roads. Every summer the Vans would pile onto the highways and lead us through the mountains. Sure they were slow, but those were good times nonetheless, we simply accepted it.
