Widely regarded as one of the greatest films of all time, this mob drama, based on Mario Puzo's novel of the same name, focuses on the powerful Italian-American crime family of Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando). When the don's youngest son, Michael (Al Pacino), reluctantly joins the Mafia, he becomes involved in the inevitable cycle of violence and betrayal. Although Michael tries to maintain a normal relationship with his wife, Kay (Diane Keaton), he is drawn deeper into the family business.

Giving Celemnza the job with so many stairs really was a test for his loyalty :D

Not AFTER the baptism, but DURING the baptism. A Master Stroke!

Machiavelli said that when you do good, you must do it sparingly, but when you do evil, do it all at once.

Barzini treating the funeral like a coronation was a huge mistake.

Poor Clemenza getting the hit with all the stairs.

I love how Michael, instead of grieving, is quietly observing everyone, looking for any signs of treachery. This was peak Pacino, when he was subtle and understated. When he could command an entire scene with just a look and subtle facial expressions. Before he got all shouty and started barking his lines, post Scarface. How he never won the Oscar for this performance is a crime.

"Today....I settled all family business"

Barzini further sealed his fate by the way he threw down that rose on the casket of Don Vito without making the sign of the cross and standing like he owned the place

Famous trivia fact. The baby being baptized in the scene is really the director Francis Ford Coppola's daughter Sofia Coppola director of the movie Lost in Translation.

The day he became a godfather was the day he became the Godfather.

Notice how Sal is the only one not wearing black — actually grey, which is the color of ambiguity. So many subtle details! What a masterpiece.

Tessio: "Tom, can you get me off the hook, for old time's sake"?............Tom: "Can't do it Salley". That's the coldest response, said in such a nice friendly manner.

"after the baptism..." Michael didn't even fully trust Tom either.

The innocence of the baby, the crescendo of the dissonant pipe organ chords and arpeggios, the vows of penitence and devotion taken in utter deception, falsehood, and moral corruption... chilling, dark, macabre, and very palpable. Bravo cast and crew!
