What Scientists Found at Australia's Black Mountain Has Shocked the Entire World

Ancient Aussie History

Ancient Aussie History

Half an hour outside Cooktown in Far North Queensland, a jet-black mountain of stacked granite boulders rises out of the savannah — and for more than 150 years, people who walked toward Black Mountain (Kalkajaka) have failed to walk back out. Cattle vanished. Search parties found nothing. On at least one occasion, the search party itself disappeared.

In this video we look at what scientists, historians and the Kuku Yalanji traditional owners have actually uncovered about Australia's most feared mountain — from the 1990s magnetic survey and historian Bev Shea's 2022 investigation, to the brutal geology of hidden voids and crevices that explains why the missing were so rarely found. No ghosts. No magnetic vortex. Something more grounded — and an ancient Aboriginal warning that was right all along.

This is ancient Australian history most of us were never taught in school.
