Man what a fucked up childhood, no wonder he was an addict for so long. One of my fave wrestlers back in the day.

The only wrestler who never won a major championship and was one of the most popular superstars ever

I was a kid in the 90s but man Jake "The Snake" was my favorite wrestler. Crazy life for such a legend. One strong dude coming out alive after all that for sure.

we really need to praise DDP... that guy has changed so many peoples' lives for the better... ButterBean went from not being able to stand up straight and being suicidal back to the old ButterBean we all love... DDP was actually a good wrestler too which is crazy considering he was a manager and didn't even train wrestling until he was in his early/mid 30s

With some help from diamond Dallas Page the snake overcame a lot of his health concerns and got back at it. I find the whole story compelling and inspiring honestly

Pride isn’t the right word but the only one I can think of, as it’s admirable he’s lived like this, gone through this, and made it out the other side.
If nothing else - I’m so happy he got to stuff his success in his dads face

Dude you can hear the pain in his voice... Im so glad he got his life back! Truly, he is one of the greatest, specially in promos/acting. He did great in AEW.

Jake was damaged and couldn't bring himself to grow above his traumas, his father was a sociopathic pedophile who sought to control his loved ones. As irreconcilable as Jake's behaviour may have been, it feels unfair to say he simply followed in the footsteps of his father.

I must say that looking at Jake and his dad, Grizzly, there is a strong resemblance, especially with the eyes. But as far as them being alike, I'd say that's where it stops.

I was sexually abused as a child and I grew up getting into addiction as a adult to cover up the pain and I was physically abused as a child too

I saw Jake on 2 times live on WWE house shows. Once in 1990 and the second time in 1996. In 1996, he was cheered so loudly and throughout the match, the crowd and myself included chanted DDT DDT DDT, and we got to see the DDT. But even then you can tell he was messed up. He staggered allot, used the guardrail to hold himself up when he walked to the ring, depended on the ropes and his opponent to stay on balance. But the crowd didn't care because his character was so beloved.

Please do one about Roddy Piper. He had a very difficult life, living on the streets at a young age. He had to become a tough SOB, almost like a mad dog, just to survive, and that carried into his fascinating persona. It’s suggested in his biography that he was abused while living on the streets (and in business) because he was a pretty boy, that he had to fight to survive, and that if it weren’t for wrestling, he would have ended up in jail. So wrestling was NOT fake to him at all.
That clip of him breaking a real bottle over his head and cutting a chilling promo while bleeding profusely is so badass! He was genuine and so ahead of his time.

No other wrestling entertainer had this kind of intensity. When Jake the snake came down the aisle you knew he meant business. Loved him and his documentary is so sad but an amazing watch… thanks for this video ❤
