Senator Evode Uwizeyimana delivered a major address at Rwanda Convention Canada 2026, a two-day gathering bringing together Rwandans and friends of Rwanda at Rogers Centre Ottawa on 10–11 October 2026.
Held under the theme *“Rwanda’s Transformation: Unity, Renewal and Strategic Engagement,”* the convention attracted more than 1,200 participants from Canada, the United States, Rwanda and different parts of Europe.
In this video, Senator Uwizeyimana addresses members of the Rwandan diaspora and reflects on Rwanda’s national journey, the importance of unity, responsible citizenship and the contribution Rwandans living abroad can make to the country’s continued development. Senator Evode Uwizeyimana is a lawyer, former Minister of State responsible for Constitutional and Legal Affairs, and a current member of the Senate of Rwanda. His presence in Ottawa offered participants an opportunity to engage with a senior Rwandan leader on matters affecting the country and its diaspora.
Other distinguished guests included Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Canada, Ambassador Prosper Higiro. Before the main programme began, participants were entertained through traditional Rwandan songs and dances celebrating the country’s culture and identity.
The convention was organised by Rwanda Community Abroad–Canada and the High Commission of Rwanda in Canada. Its programme included discussions on community leadership, Rwanda’s transformation, stronger engagement with the diaspora and building the community’s future together.
Consular services were also made available at the venue, including biometric data collection for new or renewed Rwandan electronic passports and national identity-card applications.
