Delhi is witnessing unprecedented security arrangements ahead of the October 10 protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Authorities have deployed thousands of police and paramilitary personnel, closed 57 metro stations, cancelled several train services and imposed internet restrictions in a limited area. The protest organisers are demanding accountability over voter-list deletions and the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner. Delhi Police has denied permission for the proposed demonstration, citing law-and-order concerns. The Supreme Court has also urged authorities to ensure that public transport is not completely suspended. Is Delhi facing an Emergency, or are these extraordinary security measures ahead of a major protest? What is the SIR controversy, why are protesters challenging the Election Commission, and what does this mean for democracy and the right to protest in India? Watch this video for the complete background and analysis.
