You are a realist dear dr and I am totally behind you and agree with you . We can learn good things about the western culture and keep the good from our own. Like yourself , I have lived in Europe most of my adult life 15 Iran /35 west. My parents in 70, everyday transfer guilt and emotional blackmail about why their children do not visit them enough or call them enough. Family life is busy with full time jobs, teenage children etc. as my 16 y old son tells me , you decided to bring me to this world ( I didn’t ask you ). Co dependency is a curse in our culture . I remind myself everyday that it is not up to my son to care for me when I am old . I am making plans to care for myself when times come. Independent and like my own company because I work at it and evolve on daily basis. I have come to conclusion that my mother prefer me to another trained nurse who is also Iranian & speak her language because she can mistreat me , nag and emotionally black mail me on hourly basis
