Rune pages were purchasable with IP and RP but costed 6300 wich was the price of the most expensive champions at that time.

I remember the original leashing mechanics. If you were a ranged mid laner, all you had to do was auto blue since, at the time, jungle monsters would spend several seconds trying to path to who hit them first, then finally start attacking the jungler when it hit its leach range.

Top lane has never been the same ever since 1% crit got taken away from us.

I remember that the reason why they removed the old runes was that they were so expensive, I remember playing for so long to get all of them, when I got all of them it was fun to cook but getting there was hell.

Chemtech Drake soul was funny because old Yorick had an ult that functioned very similarly to it, so they essentially gave everyone a free Omen of Death. How this got past testing I’ll never know

The problem with the old runes pages was that it wasn’t beginner friendly. On top of having to save up for all of the champs, you also had to save up for a WIDE variety of runes. So casual players often found themselves choosing between a completed rune page with a limited champ pool OR wider champ pool and lack luster/no runes.

The old runes were fun because you could create really extreme rune pages. I remember going full lethality and mpen and having like 40 lethality with 1 item. Suuuuuper weak in lane though.

I had a somewhat viral clip of me playing as Sion and I had Chemtech Dragon Soul plus Guardian Angel. I teleported to the enemy's base destroyed both of their towers solo and their nexus.

They killed me 3 times, but I just wouldn't die because I had My Original Life + Guardian Angel Life + Chemtech Dragon Soul Life + Sion Passive Life and I won the game off of that.

The runes got removed because it takes a lot of time to grind IP/Blue Essence and they wanted to increase the player base so they cut that too much grind. It is very expensive just to fully complete 1 rune page. I was so glad when they finally removed that system. It's just a waste of time. You can't queue up for a rank game without two rune pages.

Well, hextech chests. They were a bad mechanic where Riot lost far too much money off of me getting Nosferatu Vladimir six times in a row. Im glad theyre gone so that I cant unlock skins without paying for the new, definitely not chests that cost $250.

When I was on a school team, my coach looked at my rune page and laughed his butt off. The rune page in question? All flat %CDR.

I think the only problem with the old runes was the way to acquired them. Grinding so much and then having to buy so many of them wasn’t fun. The good thing was it kept new players from overextending their champ pool and allowed them to focus on maximizing their skill on a much smaller pool of champs. At least that’s how I looked at it lol kinda wish they brought it back. Made each champ fit player’s plays style better.

13:00 I’m so happy leashing has been dying, I was getting tired of Mosstomper Warwick saying he can’t solo his red despite having so much heal

@Darkloid21 1 year ago (edited)

Dear god I remember the old Chem soul/rift. The map was unplayable with how obnoxious the map became with perma camouflage and that soul…

You will NOT be missed, dear GOD!!!

EDIT: I don’t miss old rune pages, mostly because it took forever to get enough for each category, it was very costly even if it was only essence.

@quickredf0x143 1 year ago

Technically leashing is still required for multiple junglers. However, that need makes those junglers no longer meta and leads to them having awful winrates because no one leashes for them anymore.

@marcosbarea9372 1 year ago

i remember to spend three or four months farming IP to get all my runes after the 180+ hours to reach lvl 30 and be able to play a ranked without being in disadvantage by default

@citrineconjurer 1 year ago

I remember with the old runes I'd run a fair amount of scaling CDR (in place of MR) to reach the 40% CDR cap with only 1 CDR item. That item was Athene's Unholy Grail for me, which gave basically infinite mana. So I'd be able to constantly sling spells as the artillery and control mages that I love.
