Botswana: The So-Called Exception That Fails to Impress

In this episode, I stared straight into the camera and unleashed my unfiltered thoughts, weighing my own experiences against hard data and global comparisons. I brought in examples from outside Africa to show that Botswana is no different from its neighbours. There are no shining exceptions in black Africa—not even Rwanda, which is even poorer than Africa's greatest shithole, Nigeria.

Take Mongolia and Botswana: while Botswana is showered with praise, Mongolia gets a more honest assessment. This habit of celebrating mediocrity among black people and countries holds us back, encouraging us to accept less and applaud those who underdeliver. If Botswana were anywhere else in the world, it would blend in as just another struggling country. Yet, in the context of Africa, where failure is prevalent, an underachiever like Botswana receives undue hype.
