🇨🇭 Drive through the dramatic Göschenertal Valley to Göscheneralp on this cinematic 4K POV drive through the Swiss Alps. The route follows the spectacular Göscheneralpstrasse, climbing through narrow rock corridors beneath sheer granite cliffs, along the Göschener Reuss and deeper into the high alpine valley before reaching Göscheneralpsee — a mountain reservoir created above the site of a former settlement that disappeared beneath its waters. This scenic mountain drive in Canton Uri combines rugged Swiss Alpine landscapes, massive rock walls, narrow mountain roads and one of the most fascinating stories behind Switzerland’s reservoirs.

🏔️ Göschenertal stretches westward from Göschenen deep into the Uri Alps, between the mountain regions of the Gotthard, Furka and Susten. At the upper end of the valley lies Göscheneralpsee — a reservoir at approximately 1,792 m above sea level, surrounded by some of the highest peaks in the region, including Dammastock (3,630 m), Galenstock (3,586 m) and Sustenhorn (3,503 m). The Göscheneralp dam is a 155-metre-high rockfill dam with a crest length of 540 m and a reservoir capacity of around 76 million m³. Construction of the hydroelectric complex lasted from 1955 to 1962. Before the reservoir was filled, the settlement of Göscheneralp (Hinteralp) was abandoned and dismantled, while most of its residents were relocated farther down the valley to Gwüest. Today, the site of the former settlement lies beneath the waters of Göscheneralpsee.
