Despite its huge popularity then and now, the Moonlight Sonata was actually considered a fairly radical piece when Beethoven wrote it. Sonatas of the era almost always opened with a brisk, energetic first movement to establish momentum, and Beethoven's decision to instead open with this slow, restrained movement broke clearly with that expectation. Some of his contemporaries reportedly found it self-indulgent or strange for exactly that reason.
The piece is in three movements total, though the first is by far the most widely known and recorded on its own; many listeners have never heard the faster, more dramatic second and third movements that follow it in a full performance. That famous first movement sits in C-sharp minor and leans on a single triplet figure repeated almost without pause, which gives it the suspended, floating quality it's best known for.
This is a 12-hour loop of the first movement, played against a black screen.

A SOFT AND PEACEFUL IMMERSION OF A PRECIOUS GIFT WHICH SOOTHES YOUR MIND AND HEALS THE SOUL.
I love it and it always suits me in any mood I'm in.
We live in a world that is wanting to ban this from our culture, if it had been twenty years earlier, i would not be alive today and my twin girls never have heard the masterpiece that it is. I don't usually leave comments, but this speaks volumes to me and I only pray the future understands the power this meant to not only the listeners, but how deep of a meaning it was to Beethoven himself!
entrancing emotions that encompasses the world in the beauty of emotions the composer had while trying to describe a moon filled sky to someone that had nothing to compare it to. This was playing as my twin daughters were born without our intentions, but so very fitting, and I only hope they can appreciate it half as much as i have.
Ps. She is 9 months old.
Happy New Year to every person reading this lengthy comment.
