#LIVE | Youth movement grows in France: What's happening on the streets? | #OnBoard
Protests that began in high schools in France quickly spread nationwide and to universities. Young people, driven by teacher shortages, overcrowded classrooms, deteriorating school conditions, the Parcoursup system, and anxieties about the future, took to the streets, facing intense police intervention and mass arrests. According to official statements, more than 6,000 people were arrested by the night of October 5th. The movement, supported by university students, teachers, parents, and unions, entered a new phase with the "Acte III" action on October 6th.
What's happening in schools? Why has the movement found such a strong response, especially in working-class suburbs? How are police interventions fueling the anger of young people? Can the solidarity established with universities and unions transform into a lasting social movement? We discuss the student protests in France, the political atmosphere before the elections, and the dissent of the younger generation with sociologist Engin Sustam.
