#2 Cranberries - 3-4 berries per 10 lb. dog, for UTI, 2 times a day for 10 days, add a little Manuka Honey to the berries
#3 MCT Oil - 1/2 tsp per 20 lb. dog daily
#4 Greek Yogurt - 1-2 TBSP for small dogs, 2-4 TBSP for larger dogs (I make my own Kefir and give that to my dogs every morning. I do occasionally give them Greek Yogurt)
#5 Blueberries - 2-4 per 10 lb. dog (I add blueberries to their homemade dog food after it has cooked)
#6 Decaf Green Tea - 1/4 cup per 20 lb. dog daily, add it to their water
#7 Mackerel - 1 TBSP per 20 lb. dog (I give my dogs sardines, but by looking this up for myself I learned it's good to give both and as I thought, sardines are lowest in mercury) See info below.
***Watch the video for detailed information and in case I entered something incorrectly.
***ALWAYS do you own research!
Sardines are generally better for less mercury, being small and low on the food chain, while Atlantic mackerel (Pacific is even better) offers higher omega-3s and Vitamin D, but you must avoid King mackerel due to high mercury; both are nutrient powerhouses, but sardines win for low mercury, while specific mackerel types (like Pacific) offer great nutrients without the King mackerel risk.
Sardines
Mercury: Extremely low, one of the lowest of any fish.
Nutrients: Great source of Omega-3s, Calcium, and Vitamin D.
Why: Small size and low on the food chain means less mercury accumulation.
Mackerel
Mercury: Varies significantly; King Mackerel is high in mercury and should be avoided, but Atlantic and Pacific Chub Mackerel are low-mercury, healthy choices.
Nutrients: High in Omega-3s, protein, and Vitamin B12 (especially Atlantic).
Why: Smaller, wild-caught varieties like Pacific are excellent, sustainable options.
Verdict
For Lowest Mercury: Choose sardines.
For Highest Nutrients (Without King Mackerel Risk): Pacific Chub Mackerel is a fantastic choice, offering excellent omega-3s and protein.
Best Approach: Incorporate both! Sardines for low mercury and Atlantic/Pacific mackerel for robust nutrients, ensuring you choose the right kind.
