I think Michaels memory is a little off.  Facts are that I was fired months before the studio, and replaced by Matt Hurich from the band Leatherwolf. I never even heard a song from THWTD until after I was asked if I would be willing to return to the band to do the tour.  Matt apparently was not cutting it in the studio and was replaced by studio musician Brad Cobb.  After the album was recorded, they were rehearsing for the tour, and apparently Matt was not cutting it live either.  I was asked to return to the band.. apologies were made, and I continued on with Stryper for many years after.  No, I did not record IGWT either as they wanted to try and recapture the same sound as they had on THWTD.  Michael also wrongfully recounts the events in chapter 21 of his biography. Nothing in Ch 21 happened with me, and sounds more of an account of what took place with Matt Hurich.. just changed the names.  Like I said I wasn't there, so the story is false.

I met Tim in a music store he was working at, probably around 1996 or so, and asked him to autograph an album for a friend. He kindly did so. A guy with some clear "mental challenges" came in and started insulting Stryper and Tim. Tim handled it in a Christlike way. There were no cameras around and no one to impress. Tim, if you're reading this, you were so cool and "didn't let your right hand know what your left was doing." You were such an encouragement to me that day.

Tim and I worked together in Nashville for artists. I was in the live and studio scene as a drummer. Tim has a fantastic groove and is very versatile as a bass player. Him and I spent a lot of time together. We loved the same bands... TOTO, Steely Dan, Chicago... we loved the groove. Love ya Tim!

This interview really shows the inner workings of the business model known as a BAND. Thanks for this 👍

Tim is an awesome bass player. We worked together many times in the studio and live, and his abilities to interpret groove, his note choices, understanding of harmonic structure, and come up with parts that nailed the direction of the song (and as well, humble and a great hang), are things that I will always remember and honor about this seriously talented guy. Wow.

Even though I don't follow the Christian faith, Stryper is a great band and I was lucky to see them on the Hell with the Devil tour in the 80s.

WHEN TO HELL WITH THE DEVIL CAME OUT
I ROCKED THAT RECORD
4 HOURS A DAY
TRAVELED 2 HOURS IN THE MORNING AND 2 HOURS IN THE EVENING 😮 GREAT JOB 👍👍👍😎👍👍👍👍👍👍😅❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Almost every band uses session musicians. it’s very rare that every song on the record is only the four or five guys pictured in the band photo.

This has always bothered me. They released a home video back in the day saying “If we could only get Tim in the band! It’d be perfect” They kept calling his house and one day got a hold of him and he came down and that was it. They needed and seriously wanted Tim due to his bass playing then they say it wasn’t his style so we had to get other players. Makes no sense. Why get one bass player but use others? Always bothered me.

Yeah all that- but what jazz-leaning bass player can't find the pocket in a Stryper tune?

I saw Stryper in the 1987 and T-n-T and Loudness opened! Portland, Maine! 🎉🎉🎉 Tim was on Bass.

Such a great interview one of my favorites really interesting ..

He was originally replaced by Matt Hurich even did some promo photos with him

I’ve seen Tim play live, and he’s outstanding… there’s not many bass players out there that still play with their fingers like that.. an awesome guy too because I met him many years ago.. just look at the video live in Japan… Tim killed it

“Hey God I know you’re there - as I take the Vette up to 120 mph.” 🤙🏻

When you hear Against the Law, you can tell how great a player Tim was. Also you could actually hear the bass in the mixes too unlike Y&B attack and Soldiers. Those almost had the Newstead treatment.

When I was a teenager I bought the Stryper " In God We Trust"  1988. I was 17 years old, It was a good album.
I didn't know back then the music 🎵🎶  studio🎙️, the record companies brought in studio 🎙️ musicians.

It's true.   I once had a all original band and was recording a tape and our drummer couldn't find the groove so we got the studio drummer to step in and he did it just like it was supposed to be

Perry seems like the perfect fit. He has that southern hospitality!

Great interview. I just need the corvette now!
